The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plano, Tx location in the Neuromodulation Division. Our Neuromodulation business is an area of expertise for Abbott. This business includes implantable neural interfacing devices compatible with mobile technology that treat people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. Our Solutions include Proclaim (TM) XR SCS System, the #1 Spinal cord stimulator on the market, Proclaim (TM) DRG Neurostimulator, the only FDA approved DRG therapy and a market leader in radiofrequency ablation therapy, Abbott RFA. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum. Our deep brain stimulation technology for progressive diseases helps people manage their Parkinson's disease and essential tremor symptoms, steering away from side effects.

As a Senior Staff Engineer, Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC), Advanced Development for the NM Business, you will join a highly driven business division working on implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders.

What You'll Work On

You will be a hands-on individual contributor who will:

  • Oversee internal and external ASIC Design resources
  • Lead definition, architecture and implementation of next-generation stimulation, sensing and signal processing ASICs
  • Investigate new ASIC technologies, vendors, and packaging
  • Lead first-silicon evaluation, create test plans and manage ASIC test engineers through automated characterization
  • Have a strong sense of accountability, leadership courage, the ability to inspire peers, keeping an open mind and driving projects to completion
  • Investigate the scientific, technical and clinical aspects of Abbott neuromodulation devices and features and the disease states they aim to treat
  • Assist in system architecture and embedded system design when needed
  • Communicate effectively and participate on cross functional development teams with good negotiating skills to influence multi-disciplinary teams
  • Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes and task assignments.



Pay and Shift [manufacturing only; if applicable]

The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $170,000 anually, based on experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Mastery of fundamental Electrical Engineering principles
  • 10 years or more of relevant experience
  • Experience in writing ASIC development specifications and delivering detailed technical reviews
  • Low-power circuit design expertise, thorough simulation methodology and in-depth knowledge of ASIC design and layout best practices.
  • Ability to write detailed ASIC characterization protocols and perform hands-on bench evaluation
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate to all levels of the organization.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Hardware Description Language (Verilog or VHDL)
  • Cadence ASIC development tools
  • Ultra-low power analog design
  • Software/firmware programming (C, C++, Python or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of synthesis/place-and-route flows
