An individual in the Architecture job family is a strategic resource for UnitedHealth Group. This individual could be involved across many aspects of architecture, design, build, engineering and implementation of technical solutions and capabilities providing technical leadership. Responsible for communicating overall architecture vision, technical strategies, and trade-offs across various levels in the organization to gain buy-in. Will provide recommendations and technical guidance to improve performance, reliability, and reusability within the constraints of budget, resource and business dependencies. In base and mid-level roles, engages across teams in a capacity that ranges from assisting on in-flight initiatives, up to technical briefings and demonstrations of new technologies across the organization. In senior level roles, leads business solutions, capabilities, and is a strong influencer that engages with client executives and stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Present and evaluate design solutions objectively and facilitate conflict resolution
  • Ensure solutions developed across the organization are aligned to enterprise architecture standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and meet financial targets (cost and benefits)
  • Communicates common architecture vision, technical strategies, and trade-offs across various levels in the organization to gain buy-in from stakeholders
  • Provides recommendations and technical guidance to improve reusability within the constraints of budget, resource and business dependencies, emphasizing common solutions
  • Lead a small team of solution architects for pharmacy services team
  • Lead and drive next generation technology adoption to Azure cloud and emerging technology standards
  • Build end-to-end solution plans in the form of roadmaps that define the ideal and future state systems solution, scope of solution initiatives, solution delivery sequencing through architecture transition states, and assumptions and risks
  • Solid influencer that engages with stakeholders
  • Interacts with technical and business senior leadership
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple priorities and initiatives
  • Design, Develop and build proof of concept on latest technologies and assist the development team in their cloud adoption
  • Create, implement and communicate technology strategies that anticipate future business needs and meet current business requirement

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of software development experience working on open source, commercially available software
  • 5+ years of experience in a large enterprise in a hands-on architectural role
  • 4+ years of experience with NoSQL, APIs, distributed messaging systems, and open source event driven application design and commercial grade highly scalable solutions
  • Experience leading architecture using modern software engineering and product development tools including Agile, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, DevOps etc.
  • Experience with multiple enterprise deployment options following public or private cloud paradigm


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 6+ years of Architect experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on programming
  • 2+ years on cloud technologies
  • 2+ years of experience designing a system
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
  • Ability to understand how to navigate in a complex organization, understand the big picture, and influence the enterprise to leverage technology in alignment with our strategies

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
