The Application Security Engineer is responsible for advancing Orions mission of creating a secure SDLC and secure by default. As an Application Security Engineer, you will be responsible for application security vulnerability management, configuring and automating code analysis tools, creating and maintaining visibility of Orions risk footprint, remediation analysis, and review, and assisting department-wide security training and education efforts. This role will require you to collaborate with key stakeholders including Application Development, IT Security, the office of the CISO, Product Management, QA, and DevOps.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Serve as a security subject matter expert with the development and DevOps teams throughout the software development life cycle including security reviews and remediation.
  • Perform threat modeling, architecture reviews, and application testing ensuring critical vulnerabilities are identified, communicated to team members, and driving delivery of mitigations.
  • Configure and automate dynamic and static code scanning tools to support timely analysis and feedback throughout the SDLC.
  • Identify, champion, and implement practices and tolling to support a secure SDLC.

Skills Needed to Perform the Job

  • Strong knowledge and experience with Agile methodologies, SCRUM preferred.
  • Strong level knowledge of industry-standard patterns and practices to solve software development problems.
  • Experience with git source control and branching strategies.
  • Expert-level knowledge of industry-standard frameworks/projects/organizations around cyber security and best practices (OWASP, NIST, etc).

Experience Needed to Perform the Job

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development required, .NET preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of some combination of: application security, cloud security, secure software development, or pen testing required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of integrating security into SDLC through the use of static/dynamic analysis tools, required. WhiteSource, FOD, Netsparker preferred.
  • Experience using vulnerability scanning tools such as Burp Suite required.
