The purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate the product application development for IRS (airbag) product families (CAB, KnAB, PAB and SAB) within one customer. The Application Engineer is the main contact for all technical matters to the customer, as well as for the Product Design. He/She handles all development activities in terms of specifications, DVP&R, DFMEA, Product approvals, etc. and takes care of the coordination of all technical requirements, problems, change requests from the customer and system environment development in coordination with the product development team. He/She must guarantee maximum customer focus and achieve high customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Create all required prototype and production component and module drawings
  • Create program specific ERD's to release drawings, LAT documents, DFMEA, LOIC DVP&R/PVP&R
  • Create engineering driven program Deviations
  • Create all component DVP&R's
  • Obtain final DVP&R/PVP&R customer approval
  • Lead DFMEA/LOIC development and customer reviews
  • Identify necessary test and assembly fixtures and work with design team to complete designs/drawings
  • Support plant LLR, PV builds, and run at rates
  • Participate in the development of program specific module 3D Cad and study files
  • Participate in the development of program specific FEA and CAE studies
  • Create and conduct all CV, DV, and PV design reviews
  • Attend all program specific SET meetings
  • Support Program Management in developing program timing and ensure program stays on track
  • Ensure BOM cost targets are met or exceeded
  • Identify and ensure all program specific customer and legal requirements are achieved
  • Lead engineering support for all ZF manufacturing facilities
  • Ensure customer parts and test fixtures are available for system testing conducted at ZF
  • Manage all customer PO's and delegate to product engineer


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineeringand 4+ years in product/application engineering (including internship/co-op).
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future
  • Analytical capabilities (e.g. CAE, GD&T, DFMEA, PFMEA, Six Sigma, DOE)
  • Excellent communications skills including technical writing skills
  • Able to multi-task, work independently with good organization and documentation
  • Efficient in use of computer and software including MS Teams and Office
  • Ability to interface well with technical staff and functional department personnel
  • Strong customer relations skills
  • Experience working with Tier 1 supplier preferred.
  • Experience working with restraints (airbags, seatbelts, etc.) preferred.
