About Wing:

Wing is reshaping the future of delivery. We are an on-demand drone delivery service that can deliver food, medicine or other items within minutes. We’ve also developed an uncrewed traffic management platform to safely route drones through the sky. Our service is faster, safer and produces far less pollution than traditional delivery. Originally created in 2012 within X, the Moonshot Factory, Wing is now an Alphabet company.

We've since grown to a 300-strong, close-knit team of Aviators, Pilots, Engineers, PMs, UXers and more, working across hardware, software, technical infrastructure and flight operations.

In 2021 Wing completed 100k deliveries across three continents and opened the first drone delivery operation in a major U.S. Metro, Dallas

2022 is set to be even bigger, as we work with new partners to scale fast, safe and environmentally conscious delivery to millions.

About the Role:

At Wing we're building an all-in-one solution empowering drone operators to easily determine where they can and cannot fly. OpenSky, our iOS and Android app, is the simplest and easiest way to view drone rules and regulations, so you can take flight with confidence – whether that means flying a single drone or an entire fleet.

OpenSky supports flight planning for both recreational and commercial drone pilots and is an approved provider of near-real-time access to airspace controlled by the FAA in the US, and CASA in Australia. Wing’s Software Products & Services team is looking for an Android Engineer to develop the next generation of OpenSky.

Wing applications are deployed across different business verticals and geographies; in a multitude of form factors for first and third party clients. As an Android Engineer, you’ll work on a diverse team of passionate individuals aspiring to make drone delivery an accessible reality for the world. Our engineers establish best practices to enable rapid iteration of resilient software products and enable company goals of scale, efficiency, and profitability.

The team covers a wide variety of domains, so if you're excited about building apps that will be used by real-world customers, delighting users with friendly, welcoming interfaces, or enjoy working with large-scale technical infrastructure, come join our team!

What You’ll Do:

  • Participate in full life-cycle software development including requirements, design, development, testing, and support of new features and capabilities
  • Build the next generation of drone delivery software and services
  • Develop and implement new product features for our customer facing Android mobile apps. Test, maintain and support your awesome code
  • Transform UX designs into delightful experiences that make it safe and efficient for people to interact with Wing
  • Collaborate with cross functional team (UX, Backend, Android, Web, Product Management) to realize Wing’s vision
  • Improve engineering standards, tools and process

What You’ll Need:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Professional experience with Android development, working in Kotlin / Java
  • Track record of shipping Android apps on the Google Play Store
  • Ability to work across the full range of product development: ideation to launch to scale

Bonus:

  • Experience with cross-platform mobile application development (Android / iOS)
  • Experience implementing buttery smooth motion designs
  • Knowledge of C++ and/or full stack development
  • Passion for aviation, drones, or related technologies

Compensation and/or leveling depends on experience.

Wing is able to support remote employees in the U.S., Australia, United Kingdom, and Finland at this time. To be eligible, candidates must provide proof of existing work authorization for their intended location.
