Description
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.
  • This position may require an employee to be onsite monthly.

Lead an Aftersales Engineering organization and serve as the Aftersales representative to product engineering SMT engineering leadership. Design and develop solutions to complex problems in tandem to establishing strategic direction for the assigned area of responsibility to include budget and resource allocations. Responsible for handling various engineering projects, processes, budgets, and timelines and making any necessary adjustments to ensure successful completion. Achieve budget goals. Stay up to date on company-wide and industry best practices/trends relevant to position. Builds a diverse and effective team by selecting the best talent, handling performance, and providing mentorship / coaching.
  • Lead a group of high performing individuals that develop vehicle communications interface software and hardware that enables successful vehicle service programming events.
  • Support and represent GM Aftersales' interests in various industry standards (e.g., SAE, ISO, IEEE).
  • Responsible for code development (device controls, configurations, learns, and setups) for electronic module programming events.
  • In charge of developing and communicating strong objectives and corresponding project plans.
  • Own, sustain, plan future developments for:
    • GM's Vehicle Communications Subsystem (VCS) and Development Programming System (DPS), including providing licenses in accordance with governing policies, as well as level 1 support to users.
    • Auto Technician scan tool vehicle communications interface hardware/software, including management of the vendor relationship and budgeting for future development work.
  • Sustain and plan future developments on software simulation tools, used by the diagnostic scan tool, programming and IT teams.
  • Work closely with and support various teams inside and outside of GM globally: cybersecurity, product engineering, aftersales, suppliers/vendors, joint ventures, special projects, etc., on new technology solutions for service.

Additional Description
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering to include Mechanical, Electrical, Software Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related degree.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience related to vehicle electrical architecture standards, vehicle systems diagnostic data, serial data communications/networks (e.g., SAEJ1850, KWP2000, CAN, CANFD, Ethernet), embedded control systems, calibrations, and hardware.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and root cause analysis skills, especially where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • Excellent multi-functional communication, leadership skills and collaboration.
  • Proven results in successful project execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • "Deal with Ambiguity" while driving timely decision making and while ensuring progress to objectives per project plans.
    • Manage and measure work through metrics, data, and results with autonomy and accountability for results.
    • Lead numerous projects with different focal areas to successful completion.
  • Leadership experience of teams of engineers responsible for developing or testing software/hardware.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills.
