Working as a Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) Mechanical Engineering Designer at BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) is an exciting opportunity to become part of a high-tech team of people developing innovative products for the Aerospace and Defense industry. Tasks are performed under the general direction of technical leads and functional managers, plus mentorship from MGSE Mechanical Engineering Staff. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, detailed design and drawing generation of MGSE components, interfacing with structural and thermal analysis teams, and overseeing the manufacturing assembly and testing MGSE hardware.

What You'll Do:
- Participate in mechanical engineering design of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and Special Test Equipment (STE) from concept though final delivery for Instruments, Payloads, and Space Vehicles.
- Responsibilities may include:
- Performing CAD modeling, and design analysis to meet technical requirements, interface definition, performance investigation and risk mitigation from concept through detail design for MGSE hardware. MGSE hardware may include lifting, handling, support, transport, tooling and test hardware (including thermal, vibration, optical, EMI/EMC, acoustic, etc.).
- Post design sustaining engineering support will be required from fabrication, assembly and into test.
- Responsible for supporting hardware development team to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements.
- Provide inputs for detailed development schedules and support team activities to meet hardware delivery milestones.
- Interact with other functional disciplines in an integrated program team (IPT) environment.
- Proactively identify, communicate and manage risks and opportunities
- Support Requirements Development, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Test, and Requirements Verification.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field is required.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or PH.D., may substitute for two year of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Demonstrated design analysis capability.
- Proficiency using CAD software for modeling/drafting.
A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Experience in Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) for aerospace applications.
- Proficiency using Solidworks.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $64926 - $110374

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
