About the Job
We’re looking for an architect who can operate across databases, integration platforms, and business intelligence—someone who enjoys hands-on design and partnering with engineers to deliver real outcomes. In this role, you’ll work on strategic, high-impact initiatives (e.g., database modernization, integration platform upgrades, analytics platform migrations) and create clear designs, patterns, and runbooks that teams can build and support.
Location: In USA, We welcome the opportunity for this role to be hybrid at our headquarters in Freeport, ME, or approved remote states: Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Design & deliver end‑to‑end architecture for strategic initiatives across data management, integration platforms, and BI/analytics—balancing short‑term delivery with long‑term maintainability.
- Plan and lead migrations such as:
- Moving MongoDB off community edition to an enterprise‑supported platform.
- Tableau Server → Tableau Cloud migration (architecture, security, content strategy, performance, and cutover planning).
- Replacing legacy ETL (e.g., DataStage) with a modern integration approach (API‑first, events/streams, ELT, and scheduling/orchestration).
- Database management & engineering: administer and modernize RDBMS and NoSQL platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB): schema design, performance tuning, capacity planning, backup/restore, HA/DR, and security.
- Integration architecture: standardize and implement patterns for REST/gRPC APIs, event‑driven messaging/streaming, file‑based and CDC pipelines; define reusable integration contracts and error‑handling strategies.
- Analytics & BI enablement: advise on semantic models, governed data extracts, caching strategies, and query optimization; guide best practices for Tableau, QlikView, and Power BI usage with cloud/on‑prem data sources.
- Produce design assets (HLD/LLD, sequence/data flow diagrams, mapping specs) and handoff to engineering teams; collaborate through build, testing, and hypercare.
- Operationalize designs: author runbooks and cutover plans, define SLIs/SLOs with engineering, and support stability through incident response and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with stakeholders: translate business requirements into actionable solution designs; communicate tradeoffs, timelines, and risks.
- Document and socialize patterns in Confluence; manage delivery via Jira and agile ceremonies (Scrum/Kanban).
- Continuously evaluate new tools and techniques; recommend practical improvements aligned to security, cost, and reliability standards.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
Must‑Have
- 7+ years of IT experience with significant hands‑on work across databases, integration, and BI/analytics; 3+ years performing architecture or senior engineering responsibilities.
- Experience in modernization or upgrade initiatives of strategic/enterprise systems, either as a lead or as a key project contributor.
- Strong database administration/engineering skills (SQL Server, Oracle) and experience with NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB): performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, backups, replication, HA/DR, and security.
- Solid grasp of integration patterns: API design and management, messaging/streaming, ETL/ELT, batch and real‑time ingestion, error handling and retries, idempotency, and observability.
- Demonstrated experience with Tableau (preferably Server→Cloud migrations).
- Proficiency in SQL and scripting (e.g., Python/Java/Scala basics) and modern CI/CD workflows and version control (Git).
- Understanding of data privacy/security and compliance principles (least privilege, encryption at rest/in transit, PII/PCI considerations).
- Comfort with testing and automation concepts (unit, integration, performance) and working with QA.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder‑facing skills; able to turn ambiguous requirements into concrete solution designs.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to cloud data services (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure welcome): e.g., BigQuery/Cloud SQL/Cloud Storage, Dataflow/Dataform, Dataplex/Data Catalog, Composer—or equivalent services on other clouds.
- Experience modernizing legacy ETL platforms.
- Log analysis/observability (e.g., Splunk) for incident triage and root cause analysis.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
How You’ll Work
- Highly collaborative, team‑oriented environment; work closely with Architecture team, engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders.
- Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban); use Jira for work tracking and Confluence/SharePoint for documentation.
