IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE:

As Director of Technology at BECU, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our tech landscape. You’ll drive innovation through modern architecture, champion cloud-native strategies, and foster API-first development—all while empowering your team to do their best work. Your leadership will help us deliver exceptional digital experiences to our members and ensure technology remains a key enabler of our mission. This is more than an executive function—it’s your opportunity to build, coach, and deliver in an environment that thrives on growth and forward-thinking.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, or SC. If you’re located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.  For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead with Vision: Guide cross-functional technology teams toward scalable and sustainable platform solutions. You’ll architect strategies that align with our cloud, data, API, and DevOps goals.
  • Champion Innovation: Stay plugged into emerging technologies. Bring market innovations to the table and lead efforts to implement them into BECU’s digital transformation.
  • Mentor and Empower: Inspire and coach a high-performing team. From mentoring engineers to conducting performance evaluations, you’ll create a space where technical talent can grow and thrive.
  • Execute and Deliver: Oversee technical delivery for key projects. You’ll manage engineering and DevOps teams, execute against business roadmaps, and ensure agile practices are embedded in every sprint.
  • Bridge Business and Tech: Collaborate deeply with business units. You’ll co-create roadmaps, define delivery outcomes, and translate business needs into actionable technology goals.
  • Elevate Engineering Practices: Improve quality across the software lifecycle—embracing CI/CD, automation, and modern monitoring to ensure code meets the highest standards.
  • Drive Strategic Planning: Support annual tech planning. You’ll ensure new initiatives are fully scoped with financial and operational implications understood from the outset.
  • Manage Vendor Partnerships: Negotiate and oversee third-party contracts. Ensure vendor-delivered outcomes align with our standards and timelines.
  • Measure What Matters: Track OKRs and KPIs to evaluate progress, align teams, and drive accountability across all strategic initiatives.
  • Lead Governance Efforts: Represent Technology in planning forums and initiative reviews, ensuring visibility and alignment with organizational priorities.

This isn’t just about ticking off tasks on a list. It's about making a significant, positive change in BECU’s journey, where your contributions are valued, and your growth is continually fostered.

WHAT YOU’LL GAIN:

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in transformation environments and loves solving big, technical challenges. You’ll be a match if:

  • You’re an API-savvy leader who thrives on building strong engineering cultures
  • You have a bias toward action and know how to unlock developer potential
  • You see technology as a way to enable innovation, not just delivery
  • You’re ready to lead, mentor, and make an impact—at both the code and strategy level
  • You want to work where innovation is expected and supported

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of experience in technology leadership
  • 8 years of IT experience with application design expertise
  • Proven experience building technology platforms and leading engineering teams
  • Experience with distributed systems architecture and APIs, infrastructure/operations, or financial product environments
  • Delivery experience within Agile/Scrum frameworks
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD, incident management, change control, and software engineering best practices

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • Strong analytical and design thinking skills
  • Effective communicator with the ability to bridge business and tech
  • Knowledge of contract review and vendor negotiation
  • Passion for mentorship and continuous improvement
