The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Liberty Mutual Global Risk Solutions (GRS) Technology is actively searching for a Director of Strategic Services as part of the Strategy & Transformation organization. In this role, you will lead a team of experienced professionals to provide services in support of strategic efforts and alignment across ~200 product teams and critical business partners. Success in this role will enable the organization to make proactive decisions to ensure delivery is aligned to strategy and there is ongoing visibility from strategy through execution. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment that values speed and quality, can communicate effectively with partners, team members, and executives, and has a strong desire to drive change as we continue our transformational journey.
In this position, you will lead portfolio management, workforce management, special projects (ranging from internal to tech to enterprise wide) and be responsible for developing and delivering reports ranging from automated dashboards (PowerBI) to monthly operating reports and various business and technology executive reports. You will provide strategic leadership, build clear connections from strategy through execution (both verbally and through memos and presentations), continuously improve the services you and your team provide, and guide and mentor team members.
About this role:

  • Partners with Strategy Enablement director to ensure business and technology vision are understood, ongoing status is clear and always available, critical success factors (outcomes, OKRs, and KPIs) are tracked and visible, and deliverables meet or exceed executive expectations.
  • Establishes direction for strategic services including special projects in support of efforts across the organization and regularly looks for opportunities to improve services provided.
  • Oversees multiple projects/initiatives ensuring scope and milestones are established for projects; is responsive to changing priorities.
  • Develops the narrative for the organizations progress against the strategy ? going beyond the basics of status updates.
  • Supports strategy development and planning.
  • Identifies and drives efforts to simplify how we ensure visibility to progress against the strategy (such as simplifying the reporting ecosystem).
  • Embeds product-focused thinking into deliverables and activities.
  • Monitors portfolio health and works with others to ensure proactive knowledge of challenges, wins, and decisions.
  • Analyzes workforce and vendor landscape to identify opportunities for savings and improvements in how we operate, in partnership with procurement and others.
  • Understands and participates in budget discussions; manages to plan.
  • Coaches and counsels team members. Ensures decisions related to hiring, performance management, and promotions are executed.
  • Takes time to learn from team members, embracing diverse perspectives, and ensuring direction is stated effectively and openly for feedback; embraces feedback.
  • Develops and maintains a network of industry contacts; performs or directs research on industry trends, competitors, business, and technology strategy execution and alignment; analyzes trends and makes strategic and tactical recommendations.
  • Initiates and fosters business partnerships with current and potential clients, vendors, IT executives, and senior business executives; develops relationships that promote trust and increase efficiency and effectiveness; balances individual client needs with business priorities assuring alignment with the business strategies and objectives.


  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in technical or business discipline or related experience; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Generally, more than 10 years related experience with 5 years in leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities. In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of project planning methodologies and tools and IT standards and guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques. Ability to promote a team environment consisting of several teams.
  • Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.
