The Director, Strategy will play a critical role within CarMax’s business by leading a team of analysts responsible for driving the business strategies and analytics in our business, supporting customers across our business. This role will develop action plans to drive performance improvements in partnership with Operations, Product, Data & Technology teams. Additionally, this role will also be responsible for developing forward-looking strategies that position CarMax’s business for long-term success.
What you will do – Essential Responsibilities
Define key performance indicators (KPI’s), measure performance, and provide develop action plans to improve areas of underperformance in partnership with Operations & Product teams
Oversee a team of analysts developing and/or maintaining a suite of analytical tools to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement
Share current performance with Sr. Leadership, develop action plans to address areas of underperformance and measure impact of action plans
Ensure business decisions are in sync with our broader Corporate Strategy
Play a key role in developing our business strategy by balancing customer experience & revenue generation with cost efficiencies.
This role will be on the leadership team working to generate $100M+ of value in Experiences & Efficiencies in our corporate initiatives
Play a key role in strategic projects ensuring business strategies are in sync and align to CarMax’s overall vision
Seek insight from Sr. Leadership, to understand obstacles to success, and provide data driven recommendations and solutions to resolve
Provide Strategic guidance to Sr. Leadership, including Operations leaders, Product Leadership, Innovation leaders and COO
Lead analyst team in creation of initial business cases around key initiatives to inform prioritization decisions based on size of opportunity, ease of implementation, and strategic fit
Support the implementation of change initiatives by consulting on key strategic decisions or leading analytical work tracks
Lead the analytical evaluation of impact from various change efforts in the test, pilot, or rollout phases
Supervise a team of 8-10 strategy analysts to help develop various business performance reports, test plans and innovation strategies
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in quantitative disciplines like engineering, business, Economics etc.
About 8-10 years of progressive experience in leading and managing teams of strategy/business analysts
A leader who brings to the table a combination of leadership skills, strategic thinking skills, influencing skills, people skills and analytical skills
Ability and experience to supervise and coach a team of 8 to 10 strategy analysts and managers
A dynamic people leader who can partner with other teams to develop a vision and follow through on this vision
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Office and has a Hybrid work arrangement.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.
