About the Role: 
Aviatrix Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) delivers the intelligence, advanced network, and security services of Aviatrix’s multi-cloud network platform as a managed offering. We are seeking a hands-on Director, Software Development to lead Aviatrix’s Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Team. You will guide a senior team of 6 - 10 engineers, shaping technical direction, scaling the team, and delivering enterprise-grade software for Aviatrix’s multi-cloud platform. You will balance selective hands-on contributions with leadership responsibilities, ensuring your team delivers secure, performant, and scalable software. You will support the deployment of performant cloud software at scale and will be responsible for your own product components including their design, development, and support. As a technical leader, you will collaborate across engineering, product, and go-to-market functions, and represent Aviatrix externally with customers and partners. 

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for Aviatrix’s PaaS platform. 
  • Provide selective hands-on contributions to critical components, while guiding the design, development, and operations of the broader system. 
  • Lead by example, mentor the team, and establish credibility through quality technical execution and decision-making. 
  • Apply engineering leadership and deep knowledge of software development at scale to lead the operation, adoption, and evolution of our services. 
  • Partner with product management and GTM functions to align technical execution with customer and business priorities. 
  • Build, scale, and develop a high-performing engineering team; oversee hiring, career development, and performance management. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, diversity, equity, and respect. 
  • Be responsible for your own product components, their design, development, and day 2 operations. 
  • Represent Aviatrix in cross-functional forums and with customers as a technical leader. 

Requirements: 

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on contributions to large-scale distributed systems. 
  • 5+ years in engineering leadership roles (managing teams and influencing cross-functional technical direction). 
  • Excellent software engineering skills: ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code. 
  • Strong understanding of elegant and robust designs, including designing APIs. 
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems. 
  • Experience working with cloud technologies, especially with AWS/Azure. 
  • Experience designing and operating a PaaS/SaaS product at scale. 
  • Ability to deliver results in a short time and experience working in fast-paced, high-growth tech companies. 
  • Demonstrated abilities to learn quickly, design efficiently, and write quality software code. 
  • Team player that works well in collaborative situations and start-up environments, with a geographically distributed team. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication. 

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $271,575 -$319,500 + benefits + 401(k) match + equity. The pay range is determined by the role, work location, job-related skills, level, experience and relevant education. The range displayed is the minimum and maximum target base salary and is applicable only for new hires for the listed position located in the US. Your total compensation package will be based on job-related knowledge, education, certifications and location, per our aligned ranges.
