The Role

Spotify is seeking a communications Director to lead global consumer product & tech PR in an effort to drive strategic narratives around Spotify’s innovative products, features and integrations across music, podcasts and audiobooks. 


A successful candidate will have seasoned experience in the consumer tech space and the ability to set communications strategies that help educate and excite current and prospective Spotify users, influencers and the media. Experience in issue mitigation and crisis response is critical to the role, and the candidate must approach work with strong judgement and risk awareness in mind. 


The ideal candidate keeps the pulse of the tech landscape and has a deep understanding of the way technology has an impact on consumers and culture. The candidate should also have experience leading teams, with the guide and developing team members around the globe, but also roll up their sleeves and lead by example.

What You'll Do

  • Build/evolve/maintain Spotify’s consumer product strategy for 184 markets worldwide
  • Drive creativity to deliver always-on positive storytelling around Spotify’s hero features across traditional media, social media, influencer/creator channels and emerging media 
  • Identify and utilize emerging technologies and platforms to amplify Spotify’s consumer product 
  • Support major marketing initiatives around product features, generating press and influencer moments
  • Identify relevant issues that have potential impact to Spotify’s, brand and reputation and advise teams around public perception of, expectations from and reaction to company activities across multiple collaborator groups
  • Position Spotify executives and product leaders as thought leaders in the tech space
  • Build strong and trusted relationships with key internal partners throughout Spotify, collaborate closely with cross functional teams and executives for seamless integration with business priorities 
  • Write and edit internal and external communications that help Spotify share its information in clear and compelling ways
  • Work with teams to analyze the impact of communications strategies and provide data-driven insights to refine future initiatives
  • Drive excellence across a globally distributed team of three, ensure consistency and quality in planning and execution across these areas and foster career development, providing ongoing feedback and input to the formal performance/review process for team members reporting to you who manage the day to day work for these internal partners 
  • Direct outside agencies as necessary to achieve communications objectives
  • Exemplify Spotify’s mission and values in daily work

Who You Are

  • 10+ years relevant communications experience in consumer PR, entertainment or technology
  • Strategic and creative leader who implements well thought out plans on a global scale
  • Well-versed in narrative, storytelling, communications channels and writing for a variety of audiences
  • Strong partner management and leadership skills
  • Experienced people manager who's led dynamic teams
  • Strong tech and consumer media and social editor relationships
  • Robust tech influencer relationships with a deep knowledge of the landscape 
  • Knowledgeable about news and trends in the technology and audio space 
  • Experience in crisis management and ability to offer good judgment on critical issues
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Strong strategic, and resourceful problem-solver
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, global environment
  • Organized, meticulous, and able to work on multiple projects while maintaining deadlines
  • Leader and standout colleague who can work autonomously across levels, while thinking globally and implementing locally

Where You'll Be

  • This role is based New York City.
  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home. We ask that you come to the office 2 to 3 times per week.

The United States base range for this position is $199,167-$284,524, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave. These ranges may be modified in the future.
