General Description:

We are looking for an experienced Director Finance Japan to join our APAC finance team and establish the Finance function in Japan. This is a key position for an experienced, ambitious finance professional who is motivated to contribute to setting up the Japan finance function as BeiGene builds out its presence around the world and continues its commercial roll out in APAC. The incumbent must have a willingness to deal with both strategic issues and a hands-on approach to successfully build out the Japan finance function. The role requires both strategic thinking, as well as an ability to manage complex details and synthesize into big picture and drive actions across a variety of areas. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, highly organized individual with strong communication skills, judgment and problem-solving skills with the capacity to work in a non-structured environment.

Essential Functions of the job:

  • Build out the Finance-FPA-Administrative infrastructure in Japan to support the various Commercial, Medical and administrative functions.

  • Key finance business partner for the country’s General Manager and Functional Leads.

  • Lead the strategic planning processes in alignment with APAC FPA, including Latest Forecast, Long Range Plan  and Budget. Provide a financial calendar to ensure Japan meets all APAC/global planning and reporting deadlines and ensure all country functions can plan well in advance to meet those requirements.

  • Work with country Commercial Operations & Medical leadership to develop and manage P&Ls . Oversee analysis of financial and operational results versus plan as well as explain and understand significant P&L variances.

  • Preparation of country analysis and presentations for APAC and corporate management.

  • Provide guidelines including key assumptions, targets and review analysis to ensure the final plan has full by- in from APAC leadership.

  • Recommend solutions for business process/technical/analytical issues that arise in every day work challenges to improve accuracy/efficiency.

  • Lay the groundwork to identify and grow the organizational and individual development among the team including hiring talents, on boarding, driving performance, coaching and feedback.

  • Assist the APAC accounting team with the establishment of US GAAP and statutory accounts and locally required reporting.

  • Jointly with the APAC accounting team liaise with external accounting service providers.

  • Jointly manage all audit reviews including internal audit, SOX, US GAAP and local GAAP.

  • Assist business partners with all practical aspects of the Procure to Pay cycle.

  • Assist with the financial integration of pharmaceutical 3PL/4PL, wholesaler and other stakeholders within the material and financial supply chain.

  • Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.

  • Continued focus on improving system efficiencies and business practices

  • Develop financial business cases and provide key finance input to business development activity.

  • Miscellaneous projects as they arise including assisting the APAC Finance team with multi-country projects

Qualification Required:

Education Required:

University level degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Professional qualifications in Finance such as CPA/CA/CIMA (Japanese equivalent) is essential.

Profile :

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Finance, Accounting, Forecasting, Planning and Analytics.

  • Experience in building out/establishing an international finance function.

  • Comfortable in operating in a non-structured environment

  • Experience in Pharmaceutical Lifesciences mandatory.

  • Experience of delivering insights from data and ability to tell the story and present analysis, information and reporting in a clear and impactful way.

  • Excellent technical and analytical skills in finance, forecasting, financial analysis and budgeting. An understanding of business disciplines in order to develop, analyze and interpret financial data.

  • A curious mind and the ability to work collaboratively and take an enterprise mindset.

  • An interest in emerging technology and data science; FPA best practices

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work well with all levels and departments within the company.

Computer Skills:

SAP S4 Hana, Excel, Power BI, Microsoft Office

Other Qualifications:

Accounting/Business/Finance Bachelor degree with 10+ years of experience in a multinational finance environment (Experience in Pharmaceutical/ Lifesciences mandatory).

Willingness to be hands-on; desire to work in a fast paced, changing (currently unstructured) environment, excellent communication skills combined with cultural sensitivity, excellent spoken written English and Japanese language
