The core responsibilities for the newly created Vice President, Design Systems role will include:
  • Serve as Design organization leader for creating the "next generation" design language and design systems for the enterprise
  • Provide vision and strategy for a comprehensive, progressive and innovative design language
  • Lead the creation of design systems to provide for a range of user experiences, including web, mobile, voice, and physical spaces
  • Oversee delivery of design systems with primary responsibility for teams that deliver digital design patterns, guidelines, templates, repositories, and associated physical assets to support use of the design language
  • Leading cross functional teams that include product management, design, and front-end development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript), as well as other roles as appropriate
  • Collaborate and partner with back-end development teams to instantiate the web design system in Angular and React
  • Deliver reusable common capabilities and components with interoperability in mind
  • Ensure brand adherence, mobile responsiveness, and accessibility for web systems
  • Harmonize multiple existing design system and UI component library ecosystems and programs
  • Establish and manage governance of design systems, including working with sponsors, steering committee, stakeholders, and design guilds
  • verall management of design system programs, including strategic planning, roadmaps, backlogs, stakeholder and user feedback, human resources, and budget
  • Participate actively as part of the senior management of the United Design team

Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in the User Experience & Design (UX/XD) profession
  • 5+ years of experience directly leading multidisciplinary UX/XD teams
  • Proven experience leading the UX/XD capabilities within a global, regulated direct to consumer business
  • Track record of success leading UX/XD teams that produced measurable business value
  • Proven expertise in web design best practices for interaction design, visual design and information architecture; including typography, grid systems, color theory and iconography
  • Deep understanding of design theory, including affective, behavioral and inclusive design
  • Proven track record in creating and using design systems
  • Demonstrated experience managing design and development for accessible web sites and applications
  • Understanding of front-end development technologies and concerns, specifically HTML/CSS and mobile responsiveness and experience managing front-end development
  • Familiarity with Figma, Sketch, and other design tools

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Google Material Design, Material UI, and IBM's Carbon Design System
  • Familiarity with Angular and/or React
  • Background in design of physical spaces and/or objects (e.g., industrial design, interior design, urban planning, architecture, etc.)
  • Experience working in native mobile contexts
  • Agile development expertise
  • Healthcare industry experience

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $174,600 to $322,200. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
