The GitLab DevOps platform empowers 100,000+ organizations to deliver software faster and more efficiently. We are one of the world’s largest all-remote companies with 1,800+ team members and values that guide a culture where people embrace the belief that everyone can contribute.

Our entire handbook is public. You can find the details of our vision & direction, check out how we structure our R&D teams and understand how our UX team operates.

A brief overview:

As a UX Researcher at GitLab, you will be responsible for guiding research initiatives within our Manage & Plan product groups. These groups are working on features and capabilities related to access management, product planning, project management, and more.

You may be conducting persona research to enhance our knowledge of System Administrators, Product Managers, and Executives; conducting complex solution validation studies around our Work Items effort as we aim to provide a unified experience as we restructure the architecture of planning items within GitLab, or leading studies that aim to better how settings are managed within GitLab. '

What you'll do in this UX Researcher or Senior UX Researcher role at GitLab:

  • Proactively identify generative user research projects within your stage groups. Work collaboratively with Product Managers to execute research projects.
  • Divide your time across strategic research, problem validation, and solution validation.
  • Guide, and where necessary train, Product Designers in how to undertake evaluative research projects and in how to create strategic deliverables (such as journey maps, storyboards, competitive analyses, and personas).
  • Form a working understanding of the technology and features of the stage groups to which you are assigned, and have working knowledge of the end-to-end GitLab product.
  • Evangelize research. Share user insights with the broader organization and externally in creative ways to increase empathy.
  • Lead strategic user research initiatives that span multiple stage groups (and possibly the entire product!).
  • Mentor UX Researchers, both inside and outside of your stage groups.
  • Actively contribute to UX Research processes, documentation, and repositories.
  • Engage in social media efforts, including writing blog articles and responding on Twitter, as appropriate.
  • Interview potential UX candidates.

You should apply if you bring:

  • Significant professional experience with both qualitative and quantitative user research.
  • Experience integrating user research into digital product designs.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Share our values, and work in accordance with those values.
  • Experience working for a technology or enterprise software organization.
  • Experience working with a remote team or conducting research remotely.

You can work incredibly flexible hours, enabled by our asynchronous approach to communication. We'll also help you set up your home office environment, pay for your membership to a co-working space, and, every year or so, we'll invite you to our Contribute event.
