UI/UX Designer

Job Summary:

Altair is looking for an experienced and talented UI/UX Designer to join their internal digital product design team to create unique, user-centric products and experiences for their portfolio of simulation and innovation-driven software products. Ideally you would have experience working with agile teams including product managers, designers, and developers. You will also have familiarity with traditionally UX-oriented tasks, and will use user data to inform your design decisions. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around crafting beautiful and polished UI for product teams to translate into live, commercially deployed software. A working knowledge of 3D applications and modelling proficiency sets you apart from the crowd.

What You Will Do:

• Team player capable of comfortably cross-collaborating with teams and roles of all different shapes and sizes. From large legacy teams to small emergent product teams you will need to interact and collaborate with all level of product managers, developers, technical writers, and designers.
• Perform requirement gathering and discovery tasks for design exercises with functional managers, product teams, and stakeholders.
• Create exceptionally polished, pixel-perfect mockups and designs to help guide and influence product and feature development using style guides, design pattern libraries, wireframes, prototypes, and user flows.
• Present and defend your ideas and design decisions using user research and data, design thinking, and design fundamentals (ie: color theory, hierarchy, usability, legibility, etc.) to designers and non-designer stakeholders.
• Show a high level of self-organization, initiative, and thoughtfulness when approaching design tasks.
• Stay up-to-date on current design trends, patterns, and industry standards and present and share with your team on a regular basis.
• Actively mentors and instructs other team members on industry best practices, design fundamentals, and other design-related topics.
• Document design specification and guidelines for style guides, design components, and design patterns for product and design teams.

What You Will Need:

Basics:

• 2-3 years experience working as a Visual, UI, UI/UX, or Product designer.
• Portfolio showing critical thinking, ability to solve problems using creativity, strong attention to detail, and expert level command of design fundamentals.
• Systems-thinking capable with ability to create, organize, and apply design systems to digital products, experiences, and ecosystems.
• Advanced understanding and experience using the following tools: Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, etc.
• Understanding of basic front-end languages: HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, etc. (no coding required)
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development process
• Give and receive objective criticism of your and others' design work.
• Bachelors in Graphic Design or related degree and education level
• Bonus: 3D or CAD modelling experience using SolidWorks, Maya, or similar 3D/CAD applications, High-fidelity click-through prototypes, Experience designing for desktop software
