See yourself at Twilio

Join the team as a TwilioQuest Content and Level Designer in North America or Europe on the Twilio Education team at Twilio.

Who we are & why we’re hiring

Twilio powers real-time business communications and data solutions that help companies and developers worldwide build better applications and customer experiences.

Although we're headquartered in San Francisco, we're on a journey to becoming a globally antiracist company that supports diversity, equity & inclusion wherever we do business. We employ thousands of Twilions worldwide, and we're looking for more builders, creators, and visionaries to help fuel our growth momentum.

About the job

Twilio’s early in career focused team, Twilio Education, is seeking a content creator for our educational RPG, TwilioQuest. You will be responsible for expanding TwilioQuest’s existing fictional sci-fi universe. In this environment, players learn how to change the world with code. You’ll work closely with subject-matter experts to translate curriculum standards into game maps, conversations with NPCs, scripted events, and learning objectives. Your creativity will bring the world of TwilioQuest to life while teaching our players how to become better software developers.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Work with subject-matter experts and a globally distributed team to create relevant and impactful educational content.
  • Be the “voice” of TwilioQuest, ensuring that the lore captivates our player base to continue learning with Twilio.
  • Build new levels in TwilioQuest using our JavaScript based content authoring tools and Tiled for map construction.
  • Work closely with TwilioQuest’s Senior Software Engineer to ship our content development roadmap, and with TwilioQuest’s pixel artist to bring your narrative to life.
  • Propose and implement new ideas to advance the state of TwilioQuest’s fictional universe.
  • Apply your interactive experience design expertise to ensure TwilioQuest evolves as a deeply engaging, educational game.

Qualifications

Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Twilio values diverse experiences in other industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. While having “desired” qualifications make for a strong candidate, we encourage applicants with alternative experiences to also apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience with making games or content for games. Ability to use creative writing to bring engaging characters to life and constructing a narrative that enriches the game world around it
  • Software development experience with a tile based map editor and a scripting language. While TwilioQuest is built using Tiled & JavaScript, experience with similar tools will be recognised.
  • Comfortable asking questions and taking initiative to solve problems in a rapidly growing company, where it is often necessary to “draw the owl”
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills when communicating with people from a wide range of backgrounds (our players and international colleagues in various subject areas).
  • Experience working on a cross-functional team. Demonstrated commitment to seeking diverse viewpoints, and acting with intention to create an inclusive team environment

Desired:

  • Experience working on products in the education space (Primarily early in career, bootcamps, university)
  • Experience serving a developer audience. Experience engaging with a community, sharing release updates, collecting feedback and encouraging players to support one another
  • Experience delivering content for a game. Demonstrable level design experience (mods, maps, analysis of levels) and creative writing (short stories, narratives, character designs, etc.)
  • Willingness to work in public (engage with our playerbase to improve our game and content) Opinions on what makes level content good and bad

Location

This role will be fully remote. Candidates must be located in North America or Europe.

Approximately 10% travel is anticipated.
