About the job

This role is a high visibility opportunity to help evolve the #1 customer data platform (Segment) into the foundational data and growth arm of Twilio. In the first phase of this evolution, you will be responsible for helping lead the migration of the Segment product suite off its existing design system and onto Twilio's design system. The migration onto the Paste design system initiative, aptly named “One Twilio”, will represent a majority of the scope of this role for the first 6-12 months. As implementation work finishes, this role will start to split time between shepherding the Segment product design teams onto Twilio’s design system and focusing on app-wide CX projects that ensure we can move the Twilio products towards consistency and cohesion.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Become an expert on design patterns used across products that leverage both Evergreen and Paste design systems, identifying gaps between the two systems and driving design decisions that enable our teams’ transition to Paste
  • Partner closely with Front end engineering to plan, lead, and execute the transition from Evergreen to Paste
  • Serve as the go-to expert of the Paste design system for Paste to the Segment product design team, empowering designers to adopt and scale Paste across our products, while also maintaining a deep knowledge of the Segment product and advocating for the best customer experience
  • Contribute candid feedback to design critiques throughout the UX team to support designers in building polished customer experiences.
  • Design and ship high-quality user interfaces, components, and patterns in a systematic, detail-oriented ways, ensuring the coded implementations are consistent with designs.
  • In addition to design systems work, you will drive the end-to-end design of new solutions that create seamless and cohesive experiences across Twilio’s suite of products

Qualifications

Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Twilio values diverse experiences in other industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. While having “desired” qualifications make for a strong candidate, we encourage applicants with alternative experiences to also apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

Required:

  • You are comfortable working across functions and across teams in order to express and recommend trade offs, drive alignment, and lead projects forward
  • You have experience working with complex products, potentially b2b or enterprise
  • You’re really good at collaborating with engineers. You don’t necessarily know how to code, but you know how to speak their language to support implementation.
  • You’re able to define projects and measures of success, test your assumptions, and continuously iterate on your solutions.
  • You are proficient in maintaining component and style libraries in Figma.
  • You demonstrate an understanding of visual design, typography, color, and hierarchy.
  • You are excellent at exploring design solutions at both a systematic level and feature level.
  • You think in systems; you can see how all the parts fit together, and how a small change can propagate throughout the system.

Desired:

  • You have experience evolving and driving adoption of a design system that impacts multiple products in a B2B environment.
  • You have the ability and desire to split time between leading design systems work and app-wide CX product design work.
  • You have experience designing products end-to-end, leveraging research and user testing to bring a data-driven approach to your design choices and working closely with engineers ensure quality implementation
  • You have experience working across other functions such as product managers, engineering, marketing, and other designers to develop and execute on product strategy.
