About HashiCorp

HashiCorp is a fast-growing startup that solves development, operations, and security challenges in infrastructure so organizations can focus on business-critical tasks. We build products to give organizations a consistent way to manage their move to cloud-based IT infrastructures for running their applications. Our products enable companies large and small to mix and match AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and other clouds as well as on-premises environments, easing their ability to deliver new applications for their business.

Meet the Team

HashiCorp Design is a “team of teams” consisting of Product Design, Creative Design, Design Systems, Design Operations, and Research. The Research and Insights team’s mission is to help HashiCorp learn about our users and customers, explore problem spaces, and generate insights that support teams in making evidence-based decisions and developing thoughtful solutions.

What We Do

We believe learning is something we all do, regardless of job title, and we support teams through different levels of engagement. Our approach to research begins with a democratized, practitioner-led researcher-supported model.

Building on this model, we leverage research specialists to drive strategic research efforts such as problem space explorations that are product-agnostic. This helps build understanding and activate shared learnings across teams and offerings.

Research at HashiCorp supports and enables teams in a few ways. First, we aim to activate, elevate and accelerate the research our teams are already doing or want to be doing by offering tools, training, and resources through self-serve and advisory support.

In addition, we have embedded researchers, who embed with a team or focus space for us for extended periods of time. Lastly, we provide support through our specialist-led studies and research program, our Research Foundations team, which drives long-term, strategic research efforts.

What You’ll Do

As the Sr. Service Designer in our Research and Insights org, you will focus on creating a single view into current state user journeys and personas, map the internal processes, technologies and people that deliver the current experience as well as relevant user and customer touchpoints to help teams identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.

The outcome of your work will be alignment-based on evidence around the current state experience and will involve continued collaborations and partnerships to identify and prioritize strategic opportunity areas that measure business success against the user and customer experience.

This is critical in order for teams to gain a clearer understanding of target users, their contexts, goals, tasks, and needs as well as the surrounding ecosystems. The resulting artifacts and the cross-functional collaboration they enable will help facilitate alignment and progress centered on human needs and goals across all teams.

With a relentless focus on outcomes over ownership, you will work to improve the user experiences that bridge typical product line boundaries, leveraging your ability to drive forward highly cross-functional projects that bring together stakeholders from different teams and organizations  - all needed to execute on broader, strategic company goals.

Your Roadmap to Success

First 30-Days

You will build a deep understanding of HashiCorp’s R+D organization and the current state of Research & Insights through your own discovery process.

First 90-Days
You will build relationships and start working closely with peers and cross-functional stakeholders to identify their decision-making needs and start supporting them through discovery and mapping activities. This should include meeting with and observing stakeholders in various roles, and with customers and users at various touchpoints throughout the experience, to identify problem areas and opportunities.

Leveraging co-creation you will start creating and facilitating collaborative workshops by partnering with peers in Design, Engineering, and Product to engage and build alignment across teams working to co-create artifacts such as blueprints and ecosystem maps. You may also start running training sessions to help peers from non-design backgrounds leverage insights and evidence to make decisions that help them achieve their goals.

You will collaborate with them to identify and map out problem spaces to explore and opportunities to drive alignment and clarity. You will successfully close out your first 90-days with blooming relationships and a plan to execute.

By 180-Days

You will not only own and drive broad and complete research and service design initiatives, but you will partner with the Director and your peers to proactively identify, prioritize and initiate strategic initiatives that build understanding and alignment around the current state, and leverage the relationships and learnings to identify gaps and forward-looking opportunities, integrating insights, as well as business and future trends.

Your role will center on helping to connect the dots in order to drive evidence-based decision-making across the org at all levels.

At this point, you will have established close partnerships with stakeholders across the organization and the resulting learnings, artifacts, and activities will create alignment and trust to drive evidence-based decision making. A continuous thread in your work will be helping nurture a culture of learning within all our teams.
