Primary Responsibilities:

  • As a people leader you will
    • Lead a team of UX professionals (UI, UX, and Interaction designer) supporting 2 major areas of enterprise capabilities including design system and common components/capabilities
    • Provide oversight and leadership to a team (may include employees, contract personnel and/or vendor partners and their resources)
    • Effectively manage team work load and ensure knowledge sharing and cross-training of team members to effectively support the business and execute on team/function deliverables
    • Develop and maintain a high-performing team through effective hiring, coaching and performance management
    • Manage the resource workload, ensuring capacity to project work ratios are in balance
    • Manage multiple design teams within Enterprise Capabilities
    • Onboard business partners into Design best practices and ensure executive sponsorships
  • As a strategist you will
    • Work at the intersection of business strategy and experience design to champion holistic experiences
    • Partner with senior leaders, engineering and product teams to ensure successful and high quality experiences
    • Lead design strategy discussions at the highest levels of the enterprise
    • Support critical communications and decision related to the Design organization
    • Influence and partner cross-functional partners, including product, engineering, strategy, data and analytics to achieve outcomes
    • Facilitate design thinking moments for sponsors and product partners
    • Understand and partner across Omnichannel teams to ensure communication and experience consistency
    • Bring a bias to the teams for Enterprise solutions that support common experience needs

Required Qualifications:

  • Portfolio link on your resume is required. The portfolio must showcase work that you did and/or managed. It must be work that was delivered/executed
  • 7+ years of experience in design or related field
  • Experience with people leadership, including hiring, leading and coaching direct reports
  • Experience with a variety of UX research methodologies and their appropriate application
  • Experience with creating and presenting compelling presentations to clearly convey complex concepts
  • Experience managing or supporting organizational finances
  • Broad knowledge of UX research, Information Architecture, design, and interaction design with deep knowledge in at least one area
  • Broad knowledge of Design disciplines
  • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly articulate and educate on UX best practices, industry standards, best practices and emerging trends
  • Proven highly motivated and influential leader with ability to take initiative, set priorities and perform tasks with minimal guidance
  • Proven expertise in managing priorities, strategies, relationships
  • Proven ability to interpret product requirements documents from a user-centered perspective
  • Proven executive level presentation skills, ability to speak organization wide on Design and Design impact
  • 25% travel required for one who doesn't reside in Minneapolis/St. Paul


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Experience leveraging enterprise Design Systems
  • Healthcare domain experience
  • Vendor management

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
