Tech Strategist - In-Vehicle User Experience

General Motors' UX Strategy humanizes mobility by ensuring our in-vehicle experience fulfills customer needs and stays competitive. We're looking for a visionary Tech Strategist to define optimal in-vehicle hardware and software technologies to enable GM to go beyond meeting basic customer expectations. You will help create differentiated, innovative, personalized experiences between the customer and the vehicle. Through research, design strategy development, product definition, innovation and concepting, the Tech Strategist will propose technologies that will enable and support long-term ownership of an Ultifi-enabled vehicle (GM's Software-Defined Vehicle platform); an in-vehicle experience that grows with the changing needs of each customer.

We're looking for a hands-on go getter who is willing to roll up their sleeves and work with the team. Together, you and our team of Tech and UX Strategists, will work with a multidisciplinary team in UX research, product design, competitive intelligence, engineering, component design, human factors, and business leadership to successfully move from early-stage concepts to delivery for vehicles set to be released in the next 3 to 5 years.
Responsibilities

  • Balance customer needs, technical constraints, and business objectives to solve problems effectively
  • Collaborate closely with team members to craft a premier user experience across products and platforms, championing usability and human-centered design
  • Leverage talent in tech strategy, experience strategy, customer insights, market insights, competitive intelligence, and product and/or service design into a useful strategy and execution that will delight and serve customers
  • Create technology visions, briefs, and roadmaps for Ultifi in the areas of Personalization, OTAs, In-Vehicle Apps, Speech & Microphones, Cameras & Vision, Audio, Wireless Connectivity, Location, Displays & UI Controls, and new domains as they are discovered
  • Stay on the cutting edge of technological advancements across verticals
  • Participate in workshops and collaborative strategic activities with partners and users
  • Collaborate with teammates to design and conduct partner research and to support our user research group
  • Create deliverables and presentations to communicate your work ; Capture problem definitions in a variety of forms and models, including personas, scenarios, and requirements
  • Contribute to the continued evolution of the team's workflows and processes to further improve quality and performance
  • Participate in Innovation Committee events to support our greater in-vehicle team

Additional Description Minimum Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience crafting technical strategies for digital interfaces, large scale websites, or sophisticated software applications across a range of channels (web, mobile, in-vehicle, etc.)
  • Ability to identify and apply technology to achieve design goals and to combine vision with strong creative and tactical planning
  • Proven experience in developing dynamic presentations in support of strategies
  • Strong portfolio with work samples showcasing expertise in user experience strategy, craft, and depth of thought, with a focus on identifying and implementing technology
  • Open to feedback, knows how give and receive criticism, and how and when to defend strategic decisions
  • Experience in working across organizational boundaries to define, lead, and prioritize work
  • Experience incorporating research into the strategic process, including contextual inquiry, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, etc.
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience crafting technical strategies for digital interfaces, large scale websites, or sophisticated software applications across a range of channels (web, mobile, in-vehicle, etc.)
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Technology, Experience Strategy, Interaction Design, HCI, Product Design, or related studies
  • Knowledge of design thinking methods and track record of successful application
