So, what’s the role?

We are looking for a versatile Senior HCI Designer and Researcher that draws from interdisciplinary disciplines such as design, computer science, psychology, information architecture, information science, and human factors engineering to be a part of our growing design team. As a Senior HCI Designer and Researcher, you'll be involved in a wide range of activities, from conducting internal and external research, mapping processes and prototyping design concepts. You will bring a strong focus on the user, their tasks, and new ways to solve problems with data-driven workflows, visualization and analytics. You will play a key role in reframing problems into new approaches, collaborating with subject-matter experts, their management, engineers, designers, data scientists and researchers.

A day in the life could include: 

  • Facilitating ideation sessions and leading workshops with end users and stakeholders
  • Think holistically about processes and systems from a bird’s eye view and dive into problem solving with great detail in task analysis.
  • Work effectively and cross-functionally with stakeholders in business, product, data science and engineering to rapidly understand challenging domain problems and apply critical thinking to find solutions.
  • Use an evidence based approach that leverages data and product analytics to inform design decisions
  • Design product solutions with a focus on human centered design techniques
  • Create specifications, maps, workflows, wireframes, prototypes to communicate design vision
  • Conduct research and usability testing to validate product designs and inform design decisions
  • Communicate and share often in written, verbal, and visual forms to create alignment and move the work towards implementation. 
  • The ability to connect business strategies, available technologies, and design solutions to deliver best-in-class user experiences.
  • A willingness to take ownership and responsibility for complex systems and outcomes. 
  • Lead the design process of end-to-end features for various product areas leading to business impact for Kin and our customers. 

I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?

  • Bachelor's degree in design, HCI, cognitive science or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience researching and designing for digital products 
  • Strong analytical reasoning skills
  • Experience working in a test and learn hypothesis driven product environment required
  • Experience creating and contributing to design systems and collaborating with other designers
  • Passion for making complex business tasks easy through user-centered design
  • Empathy for customers and passion for helping them solve difficult problems
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Learning mindset and willingness to absorb lots of new information and context
  • Self-starter personality who’s lean and eager to take action
  • Extremely collaborative work style thriving in a dynamic team environment
  • Facilitation and collaboration skills aimed at aligning cross functional peers
  • Experience designing and prototyping with Figma is required
  • Portfolio of your work illustrating your process and examples of research and design
