What You'll Do
You will leverage an iterative, user-centered approach to conceive and deliver valuable new experiences for our clients and colleagues across mobile and web platforms.
In this role, you will contribute to all aspects of the product development lifecycle. You will advise product teams on how to craft and conduct user research to generate insights into what will create a highly engaging and intuitive user experience and often work closely with teams to put those plans into action. You will often own multiple projects at the same time, often working independently and at other times with the support of collaborators from within our Design & Innovation team. You will lead the design and delivery of best practice user research including helping frame key questions, create research plans to address those, conduct research and synthesize findings into meaningful, actionable insights.
In addition, you will create professional-level deliverables that clearly and persuasively communicate the UX strategy, findings and reasoning behind it. These deliverables include research plans and protocols, research findings, personas, journey maps, workflows and wireframes. You will also actively look for opportunities to apply new tools and technologies that can help enrich the capabilities of the firm.
Who You'll Work With
You will be based in our Waltham or Atlanta office as part of the design and innovation team within our Technology & Digital function, the internal enterprise IT organization of McKinsey & Company.
You will be part of a global team that is distributed across Boston, New York, New Delhi and Prague. You will collaborate closely with product managers, product designers, developers and various other stakeholders to identify what will be most critical to the success of a product.
The Design & Innovation team is responsible for using user-centered methods in the development and delivery of technology-enabled products and services used across the firm. This ensures that we create experiences that make the work of our colleagues faster, easier and more effective, and that we incubate new ways of working that will move the firm forward.

An Insider's view of McKinsey & Company

What’s the vibe like in the office?

The best part about coming to work is collaborating with people who are excited to be here. They push me to think about the mission and vision of my day-to-day work. We’re driven by big-picture motivations and everything we do has value. My work has meaning and purpose.

Farah

Senior Design User Research

What projects are you most excited about?

I’m working with the disaster recovery and business continuity group on a new project called Disaster Recovery as a Service. We’re building a failover process for many of our mission-critical applications. That way, during a disaster or emergency, we can limit downtime, bring systems back online, and keep business moving.

Johnathan

Director of Cloud Security

How does the company support your career growth?

McKinsey is the first place I’ve encountered that truly enables employees to work cross functionally . We have a 20% rule, meaning I spend about 80% of my time contributing to my main team, and the other 20% contributing to other development projects. I’m learning new industries and skills, while maintaining a manageable workload.

Isa

Software Engineer

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

Creativity happens when you have an environment that is inclusive and diverse, promotes psychological safety, rewards bold thinking, supports with the best tools and has a clear north star and strategic vision everyone can relate to. As a leader, I try my best to set such a tone and create these conditions.

Tunde

Senior Partner, McKinsey Tech

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Maintaining a work-life balance is critical for our well-being. For me, that starts with leaders and a work environment that support flexibility. I was drawn to McKinsey’s culture of encouragement, support, and empowerment in caring for people. I have a very supportive and empathetic leader who inspires me to bring out my best at work.

Usha

Senior Software Architect
