Garmin is seeking a full-time Senior User Experience Designer to join the Device Interaction team at our headquarters in the Chandler, AZ area. The Device Interaction team's mission is to provide mobile and web applications and services that are easy to use and maximize the full interaction potential of all Garmin products.

As a Senior UX Designer, you will work primarily on Garmin Connect, the fitness and wellness application that millions of Garmin customers rely on. As part of your day-to-day responsibilities, you will be involved in every aspect of the feature development process, from wireframing the next great product innovation to tweaking pixels right before launch. You will be expected to utilize your full range of user experience design, interaction design and visual design skills. A strong ability to collaborate with others is also a must. You'll work closely with associates from various departments to research, prototype, design, present and create highly usable interaction solutions.

Essential functions

  • Expert use and knowledge of UX/UI design tools such as Figma
  • Guide design direction for multiple projects
  • Design input to product development plans and concept documents
  • Understand production and operation issues as they relate to UX/UI
  • Apply Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy and exhibit enthusiasm for and a desire to see Garmin succeed
  • Contribute to design reviews across multiple product types
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency, commitment and focus in developing high-quality solutions in a timely fashion
  • The ability to complete well-defined, complex tasks
  • Provide substantial contributions to determine the feasibility of project goals and objectives
  • Expertise on best user experience practices for a variety of different features
  • Research and provide solutions for problems that span multiple groups or disciplines
  • Provide feedback on designs in areas of expertise to team members
  • Demonstrating the ability to complete well-defined, moderately complex tasks and/or projects
  • Lead conversations with partners and potential clients with respect to user experience design
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced user experience designers (User Experience Designer 1 & 2)
  • Contribute to advanced design research for new products or markets by identifying research opportunities, creating effective research protocols and formulating solid solutions from research results
  • Demonstrate an understanding of business needs as they relate to design
  • Independently determine general approaches and specific solutions to technical problems
  • Demonstrate good judgment in setting schedules and risk-taking

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Education, experience and skills required
    • Bachelor's degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user-centered design principles, or equivalent practical experience
    • 5 or more years of experience designing for web, Android, and iOS
    • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and cross-functional stakeholders throughout the design process (i.e., from design hypothesis to creating user flows and wireframes to the specification and build of user interface mockups and prototypes)
    • A portfolio that demonstrates refined digital product design skills across multiple projects
    • Advanced knowledge of usability principles
    • Advanced abilities implementing a design thinking process
    • Advanced knowledge of design principles
    • Advanced knowledge of user interface design principles
    • Advanced abilities designing screens and user interfaces
  • Highly desirable
    • You're passionate about Garmin products
    • You have technical knowledge that helps you bridge gaps between engineering and design environments
    • You have experience mentoring one or more UX designers
    • You have knowledge and enthusiasm about accessible and inclusive design
