We are inspired to recruit talent from diverse backgrounds for every level and discipline. We appreciate that we will better serve our Membership when we grow a team that better represents everyone.
Our Mental Health Design Studio is looking for a dual Senior Service Designer and Design Director who will work alongside their fellow designers while also leading their work of making mental healthcare simple, seamless, and human-centered. The Studio Director will lead a team of 7-13 multidisciplinary designers as they work to solve big-picture design problems. You will develop and guide a high-performing team through effective hiring and coaching, and strategically manage resources to ensure work that is nimble, collaborative and inspiring. You will also amplify the Studio's influence by transparently sharing knowledge and cultivating a network of robust, cross-enterprise and external/vendor relationships.
As Senior Service Designer, you will have a strong track record of conceptualizing, defining and delivering consumer-facing solutions. You will lead efforts to understand and map the customer healthcare experience across all touchpoints and products within the Mental Health Design Studio. And you will collaborate with teams across multiple business and product lines to define consumer journeys, craft experience frameworks and create human-centered strategies rooted in consumer needs/behaviors across the omnichannel experience.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Strategically collaborate with stakeholders across the enterprise to align initiatives, champion the user experience and create common design experiences
  • Partner with diverse stakeholders to plan and scope omnichannel projects
  • Identify a measurement strategy to determine the effectiveness of design interventions
  • Facilitate design thinking moments for sponsors and product partners.
  • Collaborate closely with business, product, engineering, and insights teams to ensure communication and consistency of experience
  • Create supporting design artifacts and presentations as needed
  • Be able to articulate the difference between - and rationale for - using various methods of research, design, mapping, and prototyping
  • Identify unmet consumer needs and conceive new concepts, value propositions or experience strategies to meet those needs
  • Create maps of complex systems, experiences, and networks, and respond constructively to collaborator feedback
  • Ensure that designs balance consumer desirability, technical feasibility, and business viability
  • Lead strategic workshops with cross-enterprise partners to clarify needs, goals, and requirements, and uncover opportunities to deliver value.
  • Maximize and effectively manage vendor/client partnerships, to move projects quickly and aggressively advocate for consumer-centric solutions

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years relevant work experience in human-centered service design
  • 2+ years of experience in leading and developing a team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design tools and methods, including conducting observational research, interviews and workshops; undertaking internal and external research activities; generating conceptual frameworks; formulating insights related to the synthesis of the research data; and creating tangible, compelling design expressions that show vision
  • Ability to track and refine both the big picture and the granular details of a given project, and thrive in putting those pieces together
  • Solid online and offline workshop design and facilitation experience, including ability to teach non-designers about human-centered design in real-time
  • Strong leadership skills including interpersonal, communications, negotiation and team development
  • Ability to provide portfolio for review

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in design, human-centered design, experience design, strategic design, design management, design planning, dual degree (MBA and MDes), innovation or related innovation, business, or social science field
  • Experience in service design from vision and strategy to execution (omnichannel preferred)
  • Experience in developing multi-year roadmaps for consumer experiences at multimillion-dollar scale (omnichannel environments preferred)
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams in strategy development through planning phases by influence without authority
  • Proven track record of driving change in a large, complex matrixed environment even amid ambiguous circumstances
  • Bias toward action and innovative big-picture thinking while improving processes and optimizing operations
  • Willingness to invest time to understand our target markets, and consumers, and demonstrate a willingness to change course
  • Ability to shift seamlessly from strategic to tactical
  • Passion for social impact, healthcare, collaboration, and learning
