Let's talk about the team

The ResMed Global UX organization is seeking a Senior Design Systems Designer with a passion for creating and maintaining design systems that set up product teams for success. Our Design System is critical in enabling our vision of crafting consistent, seamless, intuitive, and inclusive experiences. The Senior Design Systems Designer will work across product teams to define and align on a standard design language that brings together our portfolio of patient and provider products and platforms, in line with UI design best practices and the ResMed brand. Thus, helping product designers and developers focus on user problems and deliver high-quality solutions efficiently and consistently.

Working with the team, the Senior Design Systems Designer will use human-centered design methods to identify opportunities, set and measure goals and productize our design system to scale UX work efficiently and effectively through its adoption and improve designer-developer workflows. While the Design System is the designer's primary responsibility, the designer may take on additional projects to support our products. Let's talk about the role

The Senior Design Systems Designer will work closely with product designers and developers to solve UI challenges including usability and accessibility issues that arise during the design phase as well as review work in development to ensure features meet quality design standards. S/he/they will be proactive in seeking opportunities to apply standards to new products and features and support the next evolution of our design system and its releases.

Responsibilities

  • Design and scale a robust, intuitive, and appealing design system composed of reusable UI elements, components, motion and interaction design patterns and styles that serve as the UI foundation for all our products and platforms (web, iOS, and Android)
  • Write and maintain clear documentation and guidelines on the purpose of and how to use components, styles and patterns specified in the system
  • Establish accessibility standards, inclusive design practices, and accessibility features
  • Design and maintain versioned Figma and Axure UI kits for product designers
  • Prototype and understand designer and developer needs and assess the efficacy of the system
  • Work with the product design and development team to solve UI challenges and implement new features and content of the design system; Review and assess feature requests with the design system team
  • Track the effectiveness, satisfaction, and adoption of the design system across teams by establishing and measuring OKRs
  • Lead efforts in evangelizing its adoption and impact
  • Work closely with product designers to solve UI challenges during design and work closely with engineering to evaluate design quality during development
  • Partner with the brand team to ensure our design system fits within the ResMed brand experience
  • Partner with DesignOps in operations-related initiatives including establishing Design System training and knowledge sharing processes for designers and developers
  • Provide governance and rules related to maintenance, adherence and adoption of the design system
  • Work in discovery and delivery (including coding HTML/CSS) for our products as needed

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's in Product Design, Human Computer-Interaction, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Graphic Design, related field or equivalent
  • 5+ years' experience as a product designer contributing directly to design systems, including designing, maintaining, documenting, and gaining adoption of UI styles and pattern libraries
  • Experience with user-centered design methods
  • Ability to explore design solutions at a systems level and feature level
  • Knowledge of usability best practices and WCAG 2.0 AA and Section 508 accessibility standards, inclusive design practices, and accessibility features
  • Knowledge of technical constraints and guidelines when designing for responsive web (HTML/CSS), cross-browser compatibility and native mobile iOS/Android apps, including familiarity of common Javascript frameworks and Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Google Material Design
  • Demonstrable UI and interaction design skills with a strong online portfolio showcasing mature design systems and its application on a product
  • Experience working with various groups and levels of the organization in an agile environment, acting as an advocate promoting best practices and consistency through internal communications, showcases, and presentations.
  • Up to date on latest UI trends and knowledgeable of information architecture design, visual hierarchy, layout, typography, color theory, branding, gestalt principles, and motion design
  • Influencer who can work well with various functions and levels across the organization unifying and maintaining a design system across multiple teams with differing goals and priorities
  • Comfortable participating in UI quality reviews, demonstrating the ability to mediate and make trade-offs
  • Possesses prototyping, copywriting, and user research skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of time



Preferred:

  • Experience with Human-centered AI guidelines
  • Experience designing for Windows desktop applications including using Fluent UI Design System
