Your Day-to-day

  • Immerse yourself into the Orion product to understand and improve the user experience, from the big picture to the smallest of details
  • Work with product and engineering and other cross-functional partners to drive design vision and strategy. Help turn business objectives into customer-centered problems and steer team strategy
  • Lead all design aspects of a project from start to finish with well-articulated design rationale and high-quality deliverables that communicate design directions and details effectively
  • Align product strategy and experiences with other design teams that focus on similar personas and related product areas
  • Break down design problems into actionable pieces and collect feedback from other product designers and cross-functional partners throughout the process
  • Design and prototype multiple ideas quicklysometimes with customersto validate product directions
  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, developers, and support teams to ensure designs are implemented as intended or collaborate when changes need to be made
  • Contribute to the product strategy of the Orion Platformthinking in terms of design systems, not just screens
  • Lead research studies with Orion users, which can include clients, staff, and synthesize findings to develop user flows, information architecture, design concepts, and prototypes
  • Inspire and mentor team members; helping them grow in their careers; championing and highlighting their work
  • Work together with the Orion design team to continuously improve and grow the design competence and culture


Who You are

  • You have 7+ years of relevant design experienceideally at a high-tech, product-driven organization
  • You've designed and helped ship software before (enterprise or financial apps are a plus)
  • You can communicate conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually
  • You have a strong portfolio that showcases your work, provides details of your role on projects, and shows examples of systems thinking and functional designs you've developed from start to finish
  • You have a deep understanding of typography, color, grid, and composition. You know when to follow visual convention and when to break the mold
  • You're experienced working in an agile environment alongside engineering, product, and support teams to collaborate and quickly ship ideas
  • You're focused on the impact of your work tracking the outcome of the things you build and using the data collected to verify its effectiveness
  • You strive to elevate the work of your peers and bring a low ego, open-minded approach to design
  • You're proficient with Figma (our preferred design tool), Sketch, or AdobeXD
  • You're familiar with working and contributing to a design system
  • You're aware of the importance of setting aside the time and space to learn and grow
  • You have a BA, MA, BS, MS in Design (Interaction, Graphic, Product, etc.), Human-Computer Interaction, or equivalent experience


Bonus points

  • You have an interest in fin-tech, advisor technology, or investment products
  • You have an aptitude towards writingparticularly UX writing
