We’re looking for a Senior Product Design Manager to lead our Policyholder Experience team. As a design leader, you’ll partner closely with Product and Engineering peers to build digital product experiences that help Root succeed as a business while solving real-world problems for customers. You’ll seek ways to improve experiences for our customers so that they continue to choose Root for their insurance, are able to successfully understand and manage their account, and get help when they need it in ways that work for them. 

As a Design Manager, you’ll lead designers across our Policyholder organization, which is made up of three product teams. You’ll coach and mentor your team to help them achieve the best possible outcomes for their work, collaborate with their partners, and grow their skill sets.

What you'll do:

• Coach and mentor your team to help them achieve the best possible outcomes for their work, collaborate and negotiate with their partners, and grow their skill sets.
• Build strong relationships with your counterparts—from product management, engineering, and beyond—to ensure alignment and help guide and evolve our product development process.
• Drive product strategy and craft a long term vision for our customer’s experience as a Policyholder, helping them to better understand, manage and get help with their accounts as needed.
• Help teams understand how to build towards our long-term goals. Gather information from both internal stakeholders and our customers to understand the right action to take.
• Show good judgment on when to invest in the long-term versus a fast and simple approach to a problem.
• Continually prioritize and help the team understand where to put their efforts.
• Be willing to get your hands dirty and pick up a project or two when needed.
• Be willing to participate in cross-organizational research and ideation, helping others know how claims fit into their products.

What we're looking for:

• 8+ years of experience designing digital products. 4+ years of experience in a people management role.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team of designers. 
• Ability to set wide strategy and help teams act on it
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Experience working closely with cross-functional partners in engineering and product management. 
• A customer champion and practitioner of human-centered design methodologies with a deep understanding of digital product development.
• You’re a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and can balance switching between strategy-level and pixel-level work.
