Reporting to the Vice President of Product Excellence Organization, you will be responsible for leading the User Experience practice at Nuance Communications, a Microsoft company, that plays a pivotal role in transforming the experience for healthcare clinicians and patients globally, using voice as the interface. In this highly strategic leadership role, you will be responsible for owning the design practice, leading the design strategy, managing a global team of UX researchers and designers, and accountable for delivering product experiences that delight our end users. You will be the champion who creates a user-centric mindset in partnership with Product Management. You will have an opportunity to build the organizational muscle for UX across the healthcare division, integrating the UX practice into various cross functions such as Engineering, Marketing, and Customer Success.
A successful candidate will exhibit a demonstrable track record of owning and driving UX transformations at an organizational level and making a measurable industry impact. You have a keen ear for user's needs, and you can map them to product experiences that are aligned to business strategies. You have deep experience with UX best practices, and you know what it takes to execute and deliver in a fast-paced environment. You are comfortable managing complex priorities and making nimble decisions. You can balance the need for product execution speed with thoughtful and data-driven product design governance. You are also able to set clear direction and priorities and inspire others to follow your lead through clear and crisp communication. You are a partner and a leader, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves when needed.
Success in this role will deliver a scalable, repeatable, autonomous, intentional, and transparent design practice that spans engagement across the organization.
Responsibilities:

  • Own and drive the UX practice including definition, strategy, execution, and governance, putting our users at the center of the design strategy.
  • Infuse a user-centric mindset across the organization. Be the champion and change leader to integrate UX function into cross-functional processes.
  • Actively engage with the customers and product leaders to prioritize roadmap capabilities that deliver delightful customer experiences and successful business outcomes, and maximizing user adoption, utilization, and retention.
  • Lead and mentor a team of UX researchers and designers, build a culture of inspiring design outcomes, and drive streamlined execution to deliver UX projects on time, on scope, and on budget.
  • Develop and maintain a compelling and frictionless user journey for all user groups that engage with Nuance healthcare products. Validate using qualitative and quantitative user feedback.
  • Partner with product management, engineering, customer success organization to measure product usage using UX metrics and seek alignment on how product roadmap capabilities will move the needle on the key metrics.
  • Develop and execute the methodology for classifying and reporting out UX investments mapped to business value.
  • Stay current on industry trends, design standards and technological advancements, and competitive analysis working with the marketing, business, R&D, and strategy teams.
  • Work with the program management and commercialization teams on product launches, both minor and major updates, ensuring the releases are backed with user acceptance validation.


Required Skills:

  • 6+ years in a UX leadership role in defining and executing UX practice.
  • A proven track record of successful user experience research and/or design of a cloud-based product offering.
  • Comfortable presenting to the C-suite level.
  • Comfortable to operate at 30,000 feet view to engage with General Managers on business strategy, as well as dive deep at pixel level to coach the UX team and lead by example.
  • Ability to rationalize the business case and make UX trade off recommendations to Senior Leadership team, manage risk taking to optimize speed and quality, and deliver results consistently.
  • Well versed with UX best practices, design principles, and execution models.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architectures and API-first services.
  • Highly data-driven in decision making practices and executive reporting.
  • Experience managing enterprise class software services serving a large variety of use cases, preferably in healthcare.
  • Experience incubating new product offerings in new segments in nimble iterations.
  • Phenomenal written and verbal communicator; capable of inspiring others and injecting energy and enthusiasm into the organization.
  • Deep believer and subscriber to a growth mindset mentality, where decisiveness and failing fast and forward is embraced.
  • Excellent relationship skills, able to build rapport quickly and easily with domain experts.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with electronic health record systems, clinical documentation, or AI-enabled systems is a huge bonus.


Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, or related field & experience.
