We’re looking for a Product Designer to join our team at SpotOn. Using design creativity and user-centered design principles, you will work with cross-functional teams that empower small businesses to deliver great customer experiences.

About the team

You’ll be a core member of the SpotOn design team and will specifically be supporting the Design System team in order to unify and evolve SpotOn's design language.. We’re a location-distributed team across the US, Mexico, and Poland, formed by product managers, project managers, front-end web, iOS, and Android developers, as well as back-end developers. The current Product Design Team is formed by 23 people between UX content strategists, illustrators, video creators, and product designers. You’ll report to the design lead on the team.

How you’ll contribute

  • Help create a robust and usable design system: from building our Figma components library to collaborating with engineering around design tokens and implementation to creating documentation guidelines.
  • Ensure our components are inclusive, with attention to WCAG 2.0 compliance.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative research where necessary to inform your design decisions and approach.
  • Develop and maintain detailed design documentation & specifications for your work.
  • Contribute to the strategy and planning phases of new projects and products.
  • Regularly present your work to senior leaders and engineers for review and feedback.
  • Help guide designers and engineers by communicating the correct usage of the components.
  • Partner with designers and engineers to determine the best way to structure the system so it’s easy to use for both of the teams.
  • Advocate the design system within our company to help drive adoption.

What you’ll need

  • Experience creating and scaling at least one design system.
  • Strong visual design skills and proven ability to create reusable components and patterns.
  • You know a design system is more than documentation, it’s the way the teams work together.
  • Awareness of inclusive design principles and best practices.
  • You are a clear communicator and collaborator who is comfortable giving and taking design feedback as well as justifying decisions.
  • Being comfortable working with engineering teams for web and mobile user interfaces.
  • Knowledge of technical constraints and guidelines when designing for digital platforms, including web, iOS and Android.
  • Advanced knowledge of Figma’s design tool, libraries, components and variants.
  • A portfolio demonstrating your ability to develop a robust Figma component library.

Nice to haves

  • Systems thinking with a cohesive strategy toward implementing and maintaining design tokens, guidelines and principles, and component libraries.
  • Experience working with engineers in the Agile software development framework.
  • Basic working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and native mobile technologies, including kiosks or handheld devices.
