Role Description

As the Senior Product Design Manager focused on our Core Experience area, you will define a cohesive strategy and deliver cross-team, multi-phase projects from concept through implementation. Your teams will be focused creating a simple, easy to use, and best-in-class experience for our users to store, share, sync and access their files on web and desktop. Ultimately, you’ll be accountable for making Dropbox “just work”. You’ll lead a team of 8-10 product designers not only by means of their product work, and you’ll also be a coach and mentor in their career development and a culture and community builder.

Additionally, you’ll join our extended design leadership team, and will work collaboratively with Research and Content Design, and will partner directly with Product and Engineering peers. You’ll have substantial exposure to executives and will have the opportunity to be both a design and strategy leader.

Responsibilities

  • Set vision & strategy with your product partner and persuasively communicate direction
  • Guide your teams through focused work that lead to both customer and business results
  • Make clear and timely decisions that unblock your teams and partners
  • Manage a motivated and skilled product design team with humility, candor, and flexibility
  • Hold high standards of quality and work with partner organizations and teams to design cohesive customer experiences
  • Be dedicated to your team’s progress by investing in skill development, culture, and community

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience leading a team of designers as a manager
  • Proven history of managing and developing senior design talent
  • Ability to effectively guide teams through a range of experiments to big swings
  • History of building strong cross functional partnerships
  • Practice in cutting through ambiguity to strategize and solve
  • Strong design craft (while this isn’t a practicing IC role, it’s important that you’ll be able to lead your team to quality execution and coach on skill development)
  • Customer-focused mindset with critical business evaluation skills

Additional Perks + Benefits

In order to be successful in our Virtual First environment we needed to make changes that would allow employees to have more control over both where and how they work. Therefore, we embrace “non-linear workdays” with defined core collaboration hours that overlap across time zones. Beyond that, we encourage employees to design their own schedules to balance collaboration with needs for individual focus. We’ve also moved from “all day syncs” to an “async by default” culture, reserving meetings for discussion, debate, and decision-making, and handling all other work in our deep focus hours.
