We are now looking to add a Principal UI Designer to #TeamGreen based remotely in Ireland.

About the role

Matillion is building the next-generation Data Operating System. The Principal UI Designer is responsible for making user interactions with the product second to none, empowering our customers to achieve their goals with delight. Working alongside the Director or User Experience in close collaboration with Principal UX Designers and Product Marketing Managers, you’ll establish a resonant, evolving vision of the future and a strategy to realise it.

As the go-to person for all things UI, you’ll lead the way towards UI and visual design excellence. By establishing and continuously improving principles that encompass interface, interaction, visual and animation design in accordance with the validated needs of our customers, you’ll empower the end-end UX Designers building the products of tomorrow with an informed strategy for us to carry out together.

You will own the continued creation of the Matillion Design System and work with the Platform UI team to build a pattern library, which will include creative direction in building out a visual language that creates distinctive and memorable brand experiences across the Matillion product suite.

A key part of this role is ensuring that first-class UI Design happens invariably, constantly striving for better — inspiring, mentoring and coaching UX team members and the wider business, eventually building out and leading a team of UI Designers.

What you will be doing

Set and expand the vision and strategy for UI across the Matillion product suite

• Work with Principal UX Designers to define the vision and milestones for UI as part of the UX strategy
• Work with Product Marketing to form strong narratives — defining unifying product and UX principles that strongly resonate with the customers of today and tomorrow
• Devise, instigate and lead market/trend analysis and research initiatives to uncover and validate UI design opportunities
• Attain alignment and strategic adoption by regularly communicating out the vision for UI business-wide

Collaboratively realise the vision for Matillion's UI future

• Support and align the outputs of UX Designers in individual product areas — forming a consistent, coherent omnichannel UX
• Cultivate a comprehensive Design System that allows efficient, consistent UX/UI Design to take place at scale
• Participate in user research activities to optimise extendable components and pattern UI
• Work with the Platform UI team (Front End Engineers) to build out a Pattern Library that promotes consistent and accessible foundations for product teams to build upon + enables repeatable solutions to be rapidly engineered and tested
• Provide mentoring and coaching end-end UX Designers to deliver UI that meets defined standards as part of a collaborative (non-waterfall) effort.
• Support non-UX Designers to bring visual coherence to the customer experience outside of the Matillion product suite (brand, web, marketing, video, events collateral)

Minimum Qualifications

• 6+ years UI experience (or you’re really good)
• Experience in Principal / Lead / Senior roles
• Experience creating / contributing to / maintaining design systems
• Experience designing software products — ideally SaaS
• Experience mentoring other designers / non-designers
• Proven skills in user research techniques
• Proven skills in ideation, sketching, wireframing, user flows, information architecture and visual/UI design
• Fluency with modern UI and animation tools such as Figma, Sketch, Principle, After Effects etc.
• Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and their limitations (no we don’t want you to code!)

At Matillion, we are committed to providing competitive salaries in line with market standards. Our estimated compensation range for this position is €72,000 - €99,000, but the final salary will be based on your relevant skills, experience and qualifications demonstrated in the hiring process.
