Vox Media’s Revenue Design organization supports miriad teams and business lines, including but not limited to our Content and Display advertising businesses. This is a mix of advertising spanning corporate, in-house promotional design and development, display advertising products as well as executions, video, experiential, and immersive digital experiences, to name a few.


The Principal Product Designer will report  directly to the VP of Revenue Design. This role will be a combination of product and visual design with an emphasis on systematic, user-driven product solutions that look to solve building web experiences at scale.


 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Be a design leader on the Custom Experiences Team
  • Be a strong partner to Product / Project Managers across partner teams (Concert Studio, Vox Creative, Brand Design) 
  • Be a strong advocate for our brands, across Concert, Vox Creative, and our suite of O&O networks.
  • Lead visual and product design, as well as outreach and oversight on projects that go out of house or those supported by freelancers or contractors.
  • Help support our internal teams in terms of documentation, spec documents, templates, asset organization and creative best practices.
  • Be proactive in concepting, art direction and design direction to help envision what a product or experience could become.
  • Able to work against aggressive deadlines and juggle multiple priorities.
  • Work in support of other designers of all levels, being able to provide guidance and support.
  • May participate in team level leadership initiatives beyond project work.
  • Setting an example: amplify your team’s creative potential/output by removing obstacles, providing long-term strategic vision, and providing clarity in ambiguous times.
  • A trusted partner fostering strong stakeholder relationships.

On a project level...

  • Able to execute against a strategic brief, producing multiple viable solutions to a design problem. Ability to defend work against stated strategy.
  • A willingness and ability to push work to exceed expectations—offering tactical solutions in order to meet campaign objectives. 
  • Create compelling, user-centric visual design and product solutions.
  • Attend brainstorms, kick off calls, stand ups and team meetings, and play an active role in all.
  • Actively produce work from end to end for certain projects, and be an advocate for user-centered, accessible and responsive design and usable code on others..
  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to ensure projects are launched on or before deadlines.
  • Be able to accurately scope projects in a pre-sale or during early state discussions.
  • Tap a network of resources as needed on a per-project basis.
  • Work closely with designers and engineers across multiple teams to gain an in depth understanding of our ecosystem.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to present and speak to design and front-end solutions.
  • Attend stand-ups across multiple teams and build strong relationships with project managers to have a clear understanding of opportunities and priorities.
  • Be an advocate for user-centered design across all projects.
  • Consistently meet deadlines assigned by Project Managers and Stakeholders.

 

WHO YOU ARE

  • 10+ years of prior industry design experience.
  • Literacy in the Adobe Creative suite of applications.
  • A strong foundational understanding of typography, color theory and designing for users and designing for the web.
  • Awareness and curiosity of design trends in the industry.
  • An expert level mix of visual design, product design, designing for the web and responsive design best practices. 
  • Self starter; ability to idea and concept with alignment to business goals, build wireframes and prototypes, and craft design direction that translates to viable design solutions with minimal back and forth and without supervision.
  • Proven ability to present design solutions with a UX narrative that clearly shows understanding of problems to be solved to business leaders needing to buy in.
  • An eagerness to learn, to push the boundaries of web and interactive design, and a desire to work collaboratively with other designers, engineers and product thinkers as well as partners and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in visual, product and web design, projects you have launched from start to finish, the ability to solve design problems, and articulate a point of view with respect to your work.
  • An excitement for and an interest in web design and the latest front-end technologies.
  • Demonstrable ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Ability to work on more than one initiative at a time.
  • High standards in delivering accurate, clean and error free work.
  • Nice to have: knowledge of HTML, CSS and a strong grasp of Javascript and front-end frameworks.

This job is remote/in office/flex.
