Merchandise Developer

Summary of the role. The Pokémon Center Merchandise Development division of The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) is the team that develops and/or imports products for all TPCi Pokémon Center channels. This team is also tasked with assuring that all Pokémon Center products are created accurate and true to the rules and vision of the Pokémon brand while maintaining the highest level of quality possible. Pokémon Center is a rapidly expanding business that creates everything from collectible figures to custom apparel to home goods.
This position will be working closely with both the Merchandise Development and the Production teams to create concept sketches (about 20% of time) and CADs (about 80% of time) for desired figural/3D product lines. Ideal candidate will have a background in product development for 3D goods in a variety of materials. The goal of this position is to bring the world of Pokémon to life through unique, thoughtful, and creative product design. Products range from replica items from the Pokémon world to figures to home goods. Experience in communicating with factories regarding what modifications are required and how to improve the design is preferred. This position will be responsible for working with vendor to perfect product design while also following internal review and tracking processes. Ideal candidate will be familiar with various types of production and will be able to help guide around manufacturing challenges.

What You Will Do

• Create CADs and mold-ready STL breakdown of Pokémon Center’s figural/3D-based product lines
• Manage creation of new products through internal processes/systems
• Sketch/concept/design new product lines based on overall Pokémon Center product calendar
• Closely review designs against official character reference to maintain highest accuracy possible
• Maintain a thorough understanding of current pop-culture product trends
• Work independently on the design of product lines
• Communicate to management of product / project status and next steps
• Interpret internal stakeholders’ needs into visual design options
• Develop design briefs by gathering information to clarify design decisions
• Be able to work on multiple design projects or concepts simultaneously
• Keep up-to-date of developments in design applications and new print trends and techniques

What You Will Bring

• 3-4 years of related experience in product design or development
• Must be comfortable with iterative design processes that includes managing feedback from multiple sources, constructive criticism, and creative direction
• Exceptional attention to detail & strong organizational skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Maya, Rhino, ZBrush, or similar
• Expert proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite on Mac OS
• Ability to work in a team environment and the initiative to work independently
• Must be able to prioritize, handle multiple projects at one time, and have excellent follow up skills
• Must be solution-oriented and results-driven with strong problem-solving skills.
• Capable of adapting to a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Word.
• Familiarity with Pokémon world is a plus
• Interest in collectible statues and pop culture is a plus
• BA or BS Degree or equivalent work experience
