ClickUp is looking for a Product Design Manager with exceptional design, communication and people management skills. In this player-coach role, you lead and manage teams to ensure ClickUp's products and features are valuable for people, powerful, easy to use, and of he highest level of craft and execution. You will be expected to utilize your full range of people management skills, product strategy, product design, interaction design and visual design skills in an organization where your area of work is highly valued.

 

This role truly is an unprecedented opportunity to have an immense impact and guide ClickUp through its next phase of exponential growth. With that said, we're looking for someone to live and breathe the product for the next year to two years to really level up the product. You’ll never see another product team like ours - we literally ship a new version of ClickUp every single week.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Management: Manage a fast-growing business-critical team of designers working on ClickUp's core product experiences and solving some of the most complex design problems around today
  • Coaching: Inspire, coach and lead designers across experience levels to do the best work of their career by providing growth plans and consistent career development guidance
  • Problem Solving: Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into useful and valuable products for our users
  • Resource Allocation: Responsible for overall team performance and health, resource allocation, project prioritization, and building a culture of design excellence
  • Design quality: Review UX deliverables (research, designs, etc.) that your team creates, and provide feedback to ensure high-quality output.
  • Hiring: Recruit and build a world-class product design team
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively solicit and provide feedback from designers and a broader product team in order to continually raise our bar for quality, while also taking on mentorship
  • Cross-product collaboration: Work closely with our Product Management, Product Engineering, and senior leadership to deliver stunning and effective work
  • Thought Leadership: Proactively identify large, strategic UX opportunities that span the stages or areas you are responsible for and the product as a whole. Work with other Product Design Managers, Staff, and Principal Product Designers to drive cross-product initiatives.
  • Communicate Goals: Effectively communicate your team's product goals (both within the team and outside the team), and connect related projects across the company so that problems or joint decisions can be resolved quickly
  • UX debt: Help the product teams of stages or areas you support to prioritize UX initiatives including UX debt and overall usability improvements to the product.
  • Research: Identify strategic user research initiatives that span multiple stage groups (and possibly the entire product), and work with other Product Design/Research Managers to organize research efforts.
  • Public presence: Help promote ClickUp publicly through activities like writing blog articles, giving talks, and engaging in social media efforts, where appropriate.

 

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience managing and mentoring teams in highly matrixed organizations
  • 4+ years of design experience, encompassing UX design, interaction design and visual design with proficiency designing across platforms
  • 4+ years of experience working cross functionally with teams such as engineering, design and user research
  • You have experience methodically developing designers’ skills and careers
  • You excel at motivating and inspiring people to do their best work
  • You have experience recruiting and building product design teams
  • You are relentlessly customer-focused
  • You excel at both written and spoken communication
  • Your best work is done in a highly collaborative way
  • You can find a meaningful balance between optimizing for speed, quality, and doing risky, but interesting work
  • Experience managing a group of designers who work on complex products.
  • A clear philosophy about how to successfully manage remote design teams.
  • Solid visual awareness with understanding of basic design principles like typography, layout, composition, and color theory.
  • Proficiency with pre-visualization software (e.g. Figma, Sketch, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Experience defining the high-level strategy (the why) and creating design deliverables (the how) based on research.
  • Experience driving organizational change with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Passion for creating visually pleasing and intuitive user experiences.
  • Collaborative team spirit with great communication skills.
