Job Details

Do you want to be part of the team that enables developers and designers create beautiful, performant, and accessible product experiences for the world's number 1 CRM? If so, the Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS) Team, and its industry-leading web framework, may be just what you are looking for.

The SLDS team is expanding and looking for smart, ambitious, and creative UX Engineers. In this role, you will contribute to the next iteration of our design system, delivering the HTML, CSS, and JS for enterprise-level UI components, built with the latest web components technologies. Your work will also involve partnering with product managers, designers, and accessibility teams, to create robust experiences that are used by millions of developers across the globe.

If you love developing for the modern web, obsess over the details, and have an interest in a challenging and rewarding career working on an enterprise-level design system, we hope you apply!

Your Core Skillset

We consider these skills to be essential for success in this role:

  • The ability to communicate and document technical concepts clearly, for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Expertise in crafting clear, valid, accessible, semantic HTML markup
  • Experience writing UI components with modern web technologies, particularly Web Components, or a like-minded front-end technology stack, such as React, Vue, Angular, or Ember
  • Advanced knowledge of CSS:
    • Experience working on complex projects with a large scale impact
    • Clear understanding of modular CSS development, such as BEM, OOCSS, SMACSS, and Atomic Design, and enough experience to articulate the differences between these methodologies
    • Practical knowledge of browser compatibility issues, support, and how to create experiences that adapt across browsers and devices
    • A strong interest in keeping up to date on the latest in CSS developments and specs
  • Component-based user interface development experience, including how to construct and deconstruct components, with a focus on creating composable and reusable UI elements
  • Proficiency with front-end testing frameworks, understanding the value they provide, and how to write effective tests
  • Practical knowledge of accessibility best practices, WCAG 2.0 AA compliancy, and ARIA
  • A love of solving problems - both human and technical
  • A strong handle on debugging and troubleshooting
  • A learner's mindset and an interest in staying abreast of the latest web technologies. You continually think about how things could be done better or more efficiently.
