To help fulfill that mission, the Red Hat User Experience Design (UXD) team is looking for an Interaction Designer to join us. In this role, you will join the UXD team, which helps make Red Hat's offerings easy and enjoyable for all people to use. You will join our global team of researchers, designers, content designers, and developers to work together to bridge the technical world to the users with intuitive and approachable offerings experiences. While each of us has unique skills and talents, we all agree that the best ideas come from diverse minds and fresh perspectives. Whether you will collaboratively support Red Hat's product portfolio, exchange ideas in upstream communities, or crunch code for PatternFly, Red Hat's open source design system, your focus as an Interaction Designer will be on teamwork, empathy, and transparency, which play a key role in building offerings our users love. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Consider an end-to-end user experience that spans product onboarding, usage, and support
  • Work with a team of researchers, designers, and front-end developers to build user experience (UX) in your product area
  • Partner with stakeholders across Red Hat to gather business requirements and present recommendations
  • Participate in design thinking, journey mapping, or other workshops to elicit requirements, identify priorities, and inform design
  • Participate in user research to inform or validate design decisions
  • Understand and communicate the information architecture, workflows, and processes surrounding the UX
  • Create mockups, wireframes, and other design deliverables
  • Build relationships with developers to support successful implementation
  • Identify usability issues and make solid recommendations for improvement
  • Engage with PatternFly, our community-built design system, as both a user and a contributor


What you will bring

  • Experience with UX interaction design with the ability to work with a cross-functional team of designers, developers, and product managers to deliver desirable software experiences for Red Hat
  • Portfolio of work that demonstrates your processes and skills
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and comfortable explaining your ideas and processes to other people
  • Knowledge of when and how to use data to inform design decisions
  • Ability to combine creative and analytical thinking to craft engaging experiences that support user goals and business strategies
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations, needs, or requirements


The following are considered a plus:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in interaction design, visual design, human computer interaction, human factors, computer science, or a closely related area
  • 2+ year(s) of experience with designing UX for applications
  • Record of creating designs and delivering high-quality results on schedule
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and unexpected obstacles, modifying work methods in response to new information to accomplish organizational goals
  • Experience with agile development
  • Experience with open source projects
