Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced industrial or product designer who will work on developing new products for Ruggable. The Furniture Designer will create revolutionary designs that solve customer pain points. The Furniture Designer will be responsible for creating innovative concepts, iterating on physical prototypes, and delivering ready-to-manufacture specs for upcoming products.
What You’ll Do:
- Drive the design and development of multiple product categories from ideation to launch, working cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders
- Conduct customer, competitor, and trend research to inform product design
- Develop innovative home goods concepts, including, but not limited to RTA furniture
- Source materials and construct physical prototypes
- Build 2D and 3D CAD models of new products and solicit rapid feedback
- Iterate with overseas suppliers on samples and designs
- Create highly detailed technical specifications of products designed for ease of manufacturing, cost, and functional constraints
What You’ll Need to Have:
Required:
- 3+ years of relevant work experience in industrial design or product design
- High proficiency in CAD (e.g., Solidworks/Fusion360) and Adobe Suite (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Ability to build functional prototypes using various materials (e.g., wood, plastics, cardboard, etc.) in a workshop environment
- Experience developing physical prototypes by hand or with fabricators
- Excellent written and verbal communication with impeccable attention to detail
- Excellent project management, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to assess aesthetics and quality of home goods products
- Ability to lift, assemble, and move large and heavy objects
Preferred:
- Experience in full product lifecycle (ideation to mass production) at startup or enterprise
- Experience with in-house manufacturing
- Experience in designing consumer products, furniture, or home goods
- Experience with soft goods design
