We have an opportunity with San Diego Studio. We seek a Technical Game Designer to join our team and work on MLB The Show. This role will focus on enabling content creation through the development of tools and at times will include systems design responsibilities.


The right person will bring their own creative perspective and technical design skills to the game creation process. The ideal candidate designs from a place of empathy, is highly creative, is on top of recent trends, is a self-starter, and is capable of creating first class experiences. Does that sound like you?

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build powerful and easy to use tools to enable new features and content creation
  • Collaborate with engineers to determine how features should work behind the scenes
  • Provide feedback to other designers on how to technically bring their designs to life
  • Design efficient content pipelines that deliver fresh content post-launch
  • Act as a technical expert on how the game functions & wield this knowledge to solve problems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product development, UI/UX design, artists, and engineering to define, design and implement fun and innovative gameplay
  • Create documentation, wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and prototypes to effectively communicate gameplay and technical design ideas
  • Present designs to peers and stakeholders while clearly communicating design rationale
  • Visually and verbally articulate technical design decisions to teammates both within and outside of the team project
  • Establish and promote best practices, and share these with other cross-functional teams
  • Conceptualize new systems, as needed, in order to raise the bar within established IP
  • Scope work, to fit within milestone deadlines and deliver on time
  • Research and experiment with new implementation and creation techniques


Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Technical Game Designer or equivalent role in game creation
  • Strong C++ or C#/Python programming ability
  • A good understanding of object-oriented programming patterns
  • A degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience developing software
  • Be up to date with the latest Technical Game Design trends, techniques, and technology
  • Experience creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, visual designs, and prototypes as well as clear documentation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills


Desirable but not required:

  • XAML and WPF programming experience
  • Experience working on Sports titles
  • Experience working on any game titles with a Live Content emphasis
  • Experience working on videogames with progression systems
  • A degree focused on videogame creation or design
  • A personal connection to the sport of baseball (fan, player, industry, etc.)
