Position Summary

The primary function of an Experience Development Designer is to support the development and integration of storytelling and thematic requirements with motion-based systems through the creation of ride elements, system performance analyses, and software tool programming. The experience development designer will work with the Guest Experience team in supporting the efforts directly with the Customer to ensure that our dynamic equipment technologies support and integrate into attractions and deliver the creative storyline. The team also works closely with the other engineering disciplines to support design, analysis, programming, testing, system development, and system safety performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Assist with high level ride planning by helping to match the ride system to the Customer's creative concepts and needs.
  • Assist Design Engineering and Customer teams with developing facility interfaces and impacts as necessary.
  • Assist Design Engineering and Customer teams with developing system design and implementation as necessary to meet sysem performance and safety requirements.
  • Provide data acquisition and system visualization to assist production and troubleshooting (e.g. utilize logging tools for system feedback, measuring battery voltage drop during a ride circuit, wireless network troubleshooting, biodynamic data analysis).
  • Use specialized developmental software and visualization tools to assist Customers in communicating their vision for the attraction.
  • Generate motion profiles to define the motion of all axes of ride vehicles.
  • Support the Engineering and Testing teams utilizing specialized tools to program and test tracked and trackless ride systems, with or without motion bases, analyzing collected performance data against system requirements.
  • Support the Engineering and Testing teams utilizing specialized tools to program and test animated figures and other dynamic equipment, analyzing collected performance data against system requirements.
  • Support Installation teams on final show programming of ride vehicles, animated figures, and other dynamic equipment to synchronize with attraction show and effects.
  • Support Engineering, Testing, and Installation teams by developing specialized software tools, scripting, etc. to assist in efficiently executing project work.
  • In-field installation and testing support of ride systems and equipment during final installation and commissioning.
  • Analysis of on-site survey data, facility measurement data (e.g. floor coefficient of friction, landmark location information, etc) and integration into specialized route planning tools.


Ancillary Duties

  • Work with Project Engineer to define budgeted scope and schedule and identify any scope changes to be managed accordingly.
  • Develop in-house software to be used to bring the pre-visualized project into production.
  • Develop software and networking for system data acquisition, data analysis, and data visualization.
  • Develop specialized software to support controls engineering in full-attraction simulation of logic.
  • Develop specialized tools to interface between show programming data and programmable logic controller (PLC) (load route data, profile data, trigger times, etc) both through offline logic writing, and online tag population.
  • Develop specialized software to automate duplication of PLC code for attractions with multiple vehicles.
  • Develop specialized software to create automated reports on PLC code, compared to OES standards, for high level review.
  • Develop specialized tools for route and profile analysis and documentation.
  • Develop specialized tools for automated Human/Machine Interface (HMI) generation (extract alarms from all subsystems into correct file format, create track image and coordinate array, etc).
  • Work closely with the Safety, Reliability, & Maintainability (SR&M) lead for system safety and reliability questions that the system designers may have.
  • Attend design reviews to answer questions from the customer about equipment dynamic performance, envelope/stopping analyses, and theoretical/actual capacity analyses.
  • Present analyses (i.e. envelope, stopping, through-put) and mitigation strategies at design reviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel as required (up to 25%).


Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Professional degree and/or software certifications
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret the creative intent into real-life movements and motions of ride vehicles
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of the following computer programs:
    • Python, C#, Unity, SolidWorks, 3dsMax
  • Experience with issue tracking systems
  • Experience with versions control systems
  • Basic to advanced understanding of mechanical, control systems, robotic control and theory, animation, and visualization techniques


DESIRED

  • BS: Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • Professional License and/or Industry Organization Memberships
  • Skills and experience with system performance visualization and physics-based modeling and simulation
  • Experience with issue tracking systems, specific experience with Jira
  • Experience with versions control systems, specific experience with Git
  • Experience with various communication protocols: TCP, UDP, EtherNet/IP, CIP
  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications and apply them to problem solving of mechanical and control systems
  • Experience in programming Allen Bradley PLCs using Ladder Logic
