The Large Power Systems Division has a new Engineering Specialist-Engine Controls position being created in the Electrical Systems & Controls team. This role will be located in Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL. Engine controls and monitoring are continuing to grow and become more complex. In addition to the complexity growth of our engine systems, the commercial applications that our engines go into are becoming more complex. The ES&C team needs a technical leader to understand these applications and ensure that the engine systems perform as expected. The Engineering Specialist will interface with other component design teams and system integrators to collaborate on system design and performance. In addition, the Engineering Specialist will keep abreast of new technologies and drive development in key areas. With the primary responsibility being to drive Product Development Excellence in the engine control space.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Provide system level technical leadership and mentoring to Systems and Controls team. This would include all aspects of S&C’s design control:
- Harness protection, mounting systems
- Power distribution systems
- Instrument panels
- Application integration requirements
- Maintain electrical system design guide and ensure compliance to design standards
- Identify areas for common design features, define those features, and enforce usage of the common design
- Provide worldwide leadership for harness design strategies
- Includes travelling to harness and engine manufacturing locations worldwide
- Drive consistency across platforms and engine brands
- Drive commonality in electrical system design and modularity for component reusability
- Collaborate with process partners on technology roadmap:
- Participate and drive component development with CatE: ECMs, Sensors, Wire, Displays, etc.
- Engage market facing orgs to create long term strategy for engine electronic controls
- Complete and maintain competitive analysis
- Be an expert in harness and control panel manufacturing processes
- Good understanding of supply base: Costs, capabilities, growth potential, and limitations
- Be an expert in manufacturing, quality, and validation processes
- Ownership of Large Engine electrical system strategy
- Continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology
- Maintain current product strategy MGPP
- Monitoring trends in Automotive and other industries and align with our product strategy
- Lead NTI development of new harness and panel technologies
- Formalize and maintain S&C’s Aftermarket Component Strategy
- Electrical System Regulatory requirements:
- Be knowledgeable in the various regulations that apply to Large Engine electrical systems
- Keep abreast of current regulations and provide interpretation of, and leadership in how to design our products to meet the intent of the regulations while ensuring the highest possible OPAAC for our products and value for our customers
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in an accredited Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Technology curriculum
- 3-5 years’ experience in engine design and/or development
- 6-9 years’ experience in electrical components, hardware, and/or systems development
- Proven leadership skills and ability to influence through previous Supervision or Team Leader experience
- Excellent human relations and communications skills
Top Candidates will also have:
- Background in Electric Power Generation, Locomotive, Marine, Mining, and/or Petroleum industries
- Experience in applying sound business acumen to guide decision making
- Strong analytical skills
- Harness design experience

- Location of this position is in Lafayette, IN or Mossville, IL
