Position Overview

We are looking for a Director of Design Systems who will report to the VP of Experience Design within the Digital Experience & Customer Empowerment (DXC) organization. The DXC team is responsible for ensuring delivery of a seamless experience across the full customer life cycle from discovery to onboarding to using our products. Our Experience team partners with marketing, sales, customer success, legal, engineering, product management and others to achieve success.

This is a critical role to inspire and lead our End-2-End design system comprising of visual design, content, global navigation, and UX patterns to have substantial impact on our customer experience and organization. You will work directly with a talented multi-disciplinary team to build and grow a system that creates a cohesive experience, brand harmony, and accessibility for millions of customers. This includes defining and governing the design language to ensure rapid decision making, coordinated execution, and visibility to key initiatives within the team all while incorporating the Autodesk Culture. You have an incredibly refined design palette and high standards for quality. You aren't afraid to give direct feedback but have the emotional intelligence to do so in a way that inspires appreciation, respect, and action. You also have a deep understanding of front-end technology and the platforms that enable it. You have a successful history of challenging the status quo in design, driving team collaboration across different business units such as brand/product, developing guidelines, and training various groups for adoption across various workflows. Most importantly, you will set the vision and culture of the Autodesk Digital Design System collaboratively with the team and stakeholders across the company. You are a champion of collaboration, trust, respect, and transparency and mentor others to embody those same values. You seek to understand different perspectives but are decisive in making the right decisions for the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Inspire and create alignment on a future vision of the experience created with our design system
  • Help set the direction, vision, and methodology across design teams and set the bar for quality by example, with energy and passion. This will require a strong point of view on design, hands-on creation of experiences, developing strategies for implementation within a complex ecosystem and building meaningful relationships within the organization
  • Provide a user-centric view while providing simple, fun and innovatively enriching experiences for our customers
  • Achieve results quickly by working alongside our data & analytics, design, product and engineering teams to deliver new experiences through effective design system artifacts (UI kits, pattern documentation, pre-defined templates)
  • Provide a balanced understanding and delivery of strategy, research, interaction and visual design
  • Meeting or exceed organization metrics and goals
  • Maintain the highest quality standards in design and front-end execution
  • Drive accessibility as a core ethos within the design system team and the company at large
  • Have a passion/expertise for all the details of typography, illustration, photography, and motion
  • Advocate the design language via prototyping
  • Work with the branding team to ensure we are aligned with the direction of our brand
  • Approach design system as a product and measure success accordingly
  • Develop processes so all designers and engineers can contribute to our systems and enjoy the process of doing it
  • Partner with Design, Product and Engineering to prioritize the team's focus
  • Mentor world-class designers through coaching, mentoring, and vision-setting
  • Facilitate a positive design culture and collaboration within the organization
  • Advocate for our customers and act as the voice of design throughout the organization
  • Customer experience advocate and leader, excited about our customer's lives through simple, intelligent and enriching products and experiences



Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong track record of crafting, launching, and maintaining the design system at scale
  • Keen eye for interaction and visual design
  • Strong frontend foundational expertise - understanding with HTML, CSS, and JS
  • Deep knowledge and experience working within the experience design organization
  • You think in systems and understand how systems will need to evolve to serve our customers
  • Strong understanding of accessibility best practices
  • A number of years of experience working with design teams and building design systems, specifically
  • Experience hiring both designers and hybrid design-engineers
  • Experience and high competence in Figma, Asana, and Adobe
