Our Opportunity: 

Chewy’s Creative Services team is looking for a Creative Strategy Director to lead our creative strategy and management function in our Plantation, FL or Boston, MA offices. Our Creative Strategy Team collaborates with Marketing and Operations, Creative and Studio Production teams to ensure our marketing strategy and consumer insights are lead to innovative, world-class creative that meets and exceeds our business objectives. They develop strong partner and cross functional relationships and best practices to ensuring the seamless translation from marketing plans to creative strategy and execution. In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with the cross functional Creative Services, Chewy Studios leadership team, as well senior marketing leads, and business teams to deliver successful Creative initiatives for Chewy.  

You will partner with Creative and Operations leaders to develop and execute best-in-class strategies and creative solutions for our business challenges. You will be involved in defining the engagements for complex cross-functional, cross-category, omni-channel initiatives, with a focus in design strategy, messaging frameworks, brand and product content creation and integrated campaigns. A passion for pets, innovation in online retail marketing communications, seamless consumer experience and culturally defining consumer brands is a must. 

What you'll do:  

  1. Be the connective thread between Marketing and our Customers—taking marketing briefs and pairing those with customer insights to arrive at a creative strategy that connects with our audience emotionally and inspires action.
  2. Act as the voice of the customer during creative development and sharing work with all stakeholders.
  3. Build highly engaged and effective team of direct reports to achieve an exceptional level of performance and accountability in a large volume, fast-paced environment 
  4. Develop and maintain positive, collaborative and productive relationships with internal and external creative partners to ensure seamless execution and collaboration at scale 
  5. Effectively partner with key business stakeholders to drive on-time, on-brief, innovative, high performing Creative outcomes across full funnel MarComm activities that resonate with Consumers 
  6. Partner with Chewy Creative Services and Studios leadership team to assess and ensure feasibility of incoming programs to deliver on Chewy’s Mission to become the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents everywhere 
  7. Expertly deliver informed and insightful strategic POV of Creative that achieves business objectives and answers consumers needs, including planning and prioritization, from intake of briefs, to delivery of final assets  
  8. Identify and apply industry best practices to define and optimize presentation and execution of Creative from ideation to conceptual development, tactics and final asset delivery, to increase efficiencies and lead to the highest quality work 
  9. Effectively and efficiently manage internal and external creative resources and forecast planning, from individual projects to holistic pipeline, provide data-based and ROI-centric recommendations for creative staffing 
  10. Expertly navigate and resolve conflict and risk management with proven ability to judiciously escalate concerns and make informed recommendations to executive leadership as needed 
  11. Ability to forecast and model Creative Management pipelines to facilitate optimization and change management across several cross functional teams and multiple locations – Plantation, FL, Seattle, WA and Boston, MA 
  12. Manage up and represent Creative team’s work product to executive leadership via regular creative reviews and business reports, ensuring a high level of performance, optimization and accountability against defined KPI’s 

What you'll need: 

As a Director at Chewy you will need to be able to meet or exceed the following competencies:

  5. Partner with other colleagues to make decisions that are in the best interest of our customers and the business as a whole, vs. following personal agendas 
  6. Solve multiple large, complex issues with strategic rationale, data and creative understanding.  
  7. Identify resources needed (projects, money, people, technology etc.) to complete projects and propose for resources accordingly 
  8. Balance resources to ensure both short-term tactical problems as well as long-term strategic goals are achieved  
  9. Understand organization's strengths and weaknesses compared to its competitors 
  10. Champion the Chewy Brand Guidelines and ensure we operate from a foundation of consumer insight to drive innovation in Chewy’s creative work product 
  11. Translate department vision into specific goals, priorities, and responsibilities for individual teams or team members 
  12. Design organizational structure by function and overarching department to achieve roadmap; Ability to drive engagement and be a cultural steward 
  13. Share business updates and translate organizational messages with appropriate audiences to promote transparency and generate buy-in with team 
  14. Highly effective strategic leader with ability to build and manage strong teams for at scale execution, high volume, fast paced, environment 
  15. Possess and have proven ability to apply knowledge obtained from extensive previous internal or external experience 

Must Haves: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning 
  2. 10+ years’ experience in brand and/or agency creative management roles 
  3. Deep understanding of online retail consumer-centric marketing communications, content creation and delivery of multimedia omni channel digital assets: design, copy, photo, video, tv 
  4. Ability to adapt to new strategies, processes, and innovation with a positive attitude in driving adoption 
  5. Continuous improvement mindset with structured problem-solving skills 
  6. Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills 
  7. Strong collaborator with highly effective relationship and partnership skills 
  8. Ability to structure ambiguous problems, analyze complex processes, synthesize data and drive toward insights and solutions
  9. A respect and admiration for all pets and ability to work with them daily
  10. Position may require travel
