Design Strategist, HR Design
The need for a Design Strategist:
The challenges and problems throughout the HR space have become increasingly complex and will require coordination across experience areas to address these problems to be able to win with talent and continually evolve our associate experience for the future. A design strategist is needed to be the connector of the business need and customer need while facilitating and bringing various groups together to approach problems in a unified way. This role will initially start in HR but could move into another space within HRAF or move into a specific area identified through this work.
Design Strategist Responsibilities:
The Design Strategist will be responsible for:

  • Conducting secondary, competitive, and analogous research, often in partnership with design research and or analysts.
  • Leading and or partnering on primary research with users, including recruitment, developing research approaches, and preparing materials (e.g. discussion guides, participant activities, profile sheets).
  • Synthesizing research insights into recommendations and compelling deliverables to guide partner strategy.
  • Championing the user perspective across HR and other partner teams.
  • Collaborating with HR partners to marry associate need (desirability) with business need (viability).

What you'll do:
We're looking for a human-centered Design Strategist with a strong background in applying creative, analytical, and theoretical knowledge to real-world digital service design challenges. You're a master storyteller with strong communication skills who can engage with stakeholders across job functions and lines of business. You lead and contribute across the product life cycle, with comfort and fluency as a strategist, researcher, and designer in order to uncover insights and drive direction and vision.   • Champion the HR vision across partner teams, identifying high-impact business/customer opportunities while showing up as the partners we want to have across product, design, technology, and business stakeholders
  • Plan and implement research strategies and methodologies, conducting primary and secondary user research, leveraging a diverse set of UX research tools
  • Inform the product strategy and roadmap through the synthesis of qualitative user research and quantitative analytics, driving data-driven decision making and aligning with the highest leverage work
  • Ensure the associate-facing experiences set the bar for quality and deliver against our customers' highest needs
  • Embed an omnichannel mindset, thinking holistically about the customer journey and delivering across device and channel touchpoints
  • Review user stories to ensure measurement aligns with user research findings, experience metrics, and business outcomes
  • Apply a Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DIB) lens to every aspect of the work


What you'll bring:

  • Empathy that will empower you to be a customer advocate in our product development processes
  • Strong leadership presence to facilitate collaboration between Design, Product, and Tech
  • Ability to translate user needs and requirements into clear and compelling artifacts
  • Ability to clearly communicate your recommendations to partners and influence the shape of the product using service blueprints, future state maps, user journeys, and more
  • Excellent problem-solving and relationship management skills


Your Design Portfolio:

  • Highlights the impact of research findings and consumer insights into successful design outcomes
  • Reflects ability to facilitate research-related tasks including planning, evaluating, and disseminating findings
  • Showcases end-to-end work on digital product design projects - show aspects of your process from engaging stakeholders, formulating research approach, and ensuring experience recommendations are actionable
  • Gives us a glimpse of what makes you and your skills unique


Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 6 years of experience in design strategy, service design or human-centered design
  • At least 6 years of experience with design thinking tools and methods


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or military experience
  • Master's Degree in design or business
  • 8+ years experience in the full range of product design, interaction design and visual design
  • Experience translating research results into actionable recommendations across diverse audiences concisely and effectively
  • Proficiency collaborating with stakeholders and acting as a strategic partner in product decisions
  • A compelling portfolio that demonstrates your past work and its impact
  • Familiarity with a variety of user research methodologies and how to use them effectively
  • Excellent communication and the ability to influence multiple levels of the organization
  • Experience designing research across devices and platforms, including mobile, tablet, desktop, iOS, Android
  • Desire to work within an ego-free, highly collaborative, and cross-functional team

Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. New York City: $154,905 - $182,753 for Manager, Design
San Francisco, California: $164,116 - $193,620 for Manager, Design
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
