Job Description

SUMMARY/SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Project Manager, Design for Six Sigma (Black Belt) will act as an individual contributor who will lead process improvements within new product development to significantly impact business results. This individual, as part of assigned teams, will drive improvements in business performance utilizing Lean Six Sigma Design Techniques. Works closely with other functional business operations that are part of the Product Development process. Acts as a key agent for deploying Six Sigma methodology including the framework, tools and processes within Motion Control Business new product development organization. Knowledge of software, electrical hardware and mechanical drive and electric actuation technologies is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Functional:

  • Lead the implementation of DfSS approach to product and process development.
  • Manage DfSS projects associated with product development activities.
  • Identify and prioritize gaps to be closed by the product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Assess products and process for their ability to meet customer requirement including capability, reliability, and robustness.
  • Support product management in using proven DfSS techniques to establish market differentiation for motion control products.
  • Ensure statistically based decision making in specification tolerance and process capability, based on thorough data analysis and capability studies.
  • Works as part of the overall New Product Development team to identify critical to quality measures and lead the transformation of existing processes to higher quality levels utilizing the Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Engage the program teams in setting and achieving specific goals around Lean Six Sigma initiatives. This includes working with program leadership both functionally and strategically to drive overall improvements in specific areas.



Leadership:

  • Advance understanding of statistics as applied to the development of product and processes.
  • Conduct and manage Green Belt level training for Development personnel sharing the responsibility with other functional Black Belts. Plan, coordinate and drive at least one training wave per year and teach regularly different sections of the training sessions demonstrating knowledge of the Lean Six Sigma tools.
  • Mentor and influence engineering team DfSS candidates through their projects driving business change.
  • Identify ideas with other functional leaders, employees and customers to create opportunities for quality improvement throughout the organization.



Interpersonal:

  • Excellent communication, presentation skills and influence. Demonstrated competency working across business unit lines with an integrated team to achieve positive objectives.
  • Provide input and feedback to key leadership positions about quality process improvement opportunities.
  • Provide functional leadership with awareness, knowledge and guidance of Lean Six Sigma principles, methodologies and tools to support achievement of RA business objectives.
  • Provides mentorship to key personnel in developing a design culture of Lean Six Sigma throughout the Product Development organization.



Business:

  • Work with program leaders in identifying potential product design opportunities, while driving results through influence and the engagement of Lean Six Sigma principles, methodologies and tools in identified areas of opportunity.



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in engineering or equivalent in Engineering or other related functional areas.
  • Masters in Engineering, with specialization in Software, Electronics or Mechanical technologies
  • Typically requires a minimum of Minimum 12 years experience within industrial functional area
  • Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt
  • Certified DfSS Black Belt or equivalent
  • Global product proficiency and understanding
  • Understands and demonstrates how to tie customer and operational demands with enabling technologies that can help drive differentiated products with high levels of production quality and reliability.
  • Able to communicate effectively through teaching and training others, while offering mentoring and help to Green Belts and Product Development teams to ensure project success.
  • Demonstrated success at launching a new process and utilization of analytical and process improvement tools and methods, e.g. DfSS, Integrated Cost Reduction (ICR), Lean and other marketing, engineering, quality and manufacturing analysis tools.
