Design Operations Manager
Grammarly offers a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members can work primarily remotely. Starting in 2022, teams will meet in person every quarter in one of Grammarly’s hubs, currently in San Francisco, Vancouver, New York, and Kyiv. To ensure that teams are able to overlap in their working hours and to meet face-to-face when needed, all team members need to live within three time zones of their direct team.
Grammarly team members who will be collaborating at our San Francisco hub must be based in the United States.
The opportunity
Grammarly empowers people to thrive and connect, whenever and wherever they communicate. Every day, 30 million people and 30,000 teams around the world use our AI-powered writing assistant. All of this begins with our team collaborating in a values-driven and learning-oriented environment.
To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Design Operations Manager to join our Design team. This role will collaborate with and support the Brand Design team in delivering best-in-class designs, and will act as a bridge between the Brand Design team and the Marketing, Growth, and Communications teams. The Design Operations Manager will interface with Legal, Security, and Procurement teams to onboard and pay vendors, including facilitating statements of work and supporting leadership in negotiating business terms and budgets.
Your impact
As Design Operations Manager, you will have the opportunity to connect with and collaborate cross-functionally across several teams to ensure interdependencies are understood and planned for.
- Within your first 30 days, you will build a deep understanding of Grammarly’s Design, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and People teams. You will deliver a situational assessment of prioritization processes, design critiques, internal communications, asset management, and cross-functional operating agreements.
- By month three, you will adopt and start evolving current processes. You will also work with Design leadership to define and stack rank strategic priorities for Design operations.
- By month six, you will support key teams in running processes and facilitating communication. You will have created effective self-service protocols and channels for knowledge sharing. You will also own a few key relationships with vendors, and will know how to onboard them effectively when needed.
- By month nine, you will ensure core Design processes are implemented and operational. You will be prioritizing your time on reflection and improvements, while constantly growing the operational capabilities for the teams you collaborate with.
- By year one and beyond, you will work with the Head of Design Operations to lead a team and/or own a particular strategic area for our Product Design team.

- Likes taking ownership and is a self-starter who enjoys driving projects from beginning to end and can help build a high-efficiency/high-output design organization at scale.
- Is highlighly efficient, with the demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and hit deadlines on time.
- Can effectively communicate ideas, explain design decisions, and rationalize proposals.
- Will coach and facilitate as an enabler, not a filter.
- Can identify, develop, and manage design programs, including resourcing, timelines, onboarding, and internal and external events.
- Can implement or drive changes to make sure designers are working at a sustainable pace on the highest-priority and highest-impact activities.
