Bestow is seeking a Product Design Manager to lead design on a handful of our product teams. This work ranges from crafting the 20+ year ownership journey to Bestow and designing first-of-its-kind systems for running insurance operations, to building and maintaining a scalable design system.


At Bestow, Product Design Management has two primary responsibilities: People and delivering quality customer experiences.


You accomplish business goals by building a high-performing, problem-solving team of designers. You can create an environment for your team to be highly motivated and engaged. You are successful when your team is fully staffed and equipped with the right skills and career growth.


You are comfortable with ambiguity and driven by a desire to improve the process and our product. You are driven by and advocate for Bestow's customer needs and are comfortable pushing back when those priorities are being de-scoped or excluded.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Be a leader at Bestow—within the design organization and among business and technical stakeholders
  • Lead a team of individual contributors and design team leads
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners that include engineering, marketing, and legal/compliance
  • Serve as a design lead on at least one team, fill in as for other design leads as needed
  • Be responsible for the quality and outcomes of design from the teams that you lead both as design lead and that your direct reports are on
  • Work closely with product managers and engineering managers on the design and experience strategy of a given team
  • Help your team resolve blockers and work collaboratively across all teams and disciplines 
  • Facilitate and contribute to design critiques and other feedback sessions
  • Cultivate a successful team aligned to company culture
  • Manage performance and career development of your direct reports through coaching and regular 1:1s
  • Perform regular talent reviews of direct reports and help them reach career goals.
  • Recruit for your team by sourcing talent and interviewing designers
  • Identify and craft improvements to design practices (ex. interview process, design-review process)

ABOUT YOU

  • 5+ years of experience in product or user experience design
  • 1+ years as a Design Lead or equivalent at Bestow or elsewhere. It can include (but is not limited to) experience as a design lead, lead designer, design director, creative director, or art director.
  • Experience working on software product teams
  • Expertise working with, maintaining, and building design systems
  • Familiarity with Scrum and Kanban and other agile processes
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the drive to conquer it
  • Have work samples that show you are a problem solver first and a designer second
  • A Bachelor's degree is nice but not required.
  • Bonus points: Proficiency with front-end development, specifically React.JS.
