Creative Director, Video
Our Opportunity:
Chewy Studios Video Team is looking for a Creative Director to join our crew to lead development of concepts for strategic initiatives and campaigns for brand video content creation at scale. As a Creative Director your extraordinary aesthetic sense, ability to build a narrative and strategic understanding of material will all be needed to execute on creative content projects. The Creative Director should have deep knowledge and practical experience working with strategic input briefs as well as developing creative briefs for agency partners. The Creative Director should be comfortable dealing with stakeholders across all levels, including Chewy Executives, Brand Marketing and Design partners and agency partners to get campaigns to their highest quality, brand defining, best performing, and most efficient execution. The volume, diversity of project types, and demand of our business dictates that our work is varied and fast-paced, therefore the ideal candidate should possess excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
A background working in a Studio environment and producing video at scale is a requirement. On a day-to-day basis, this person will attend brainstorms, write up concepts, create storyboards, moodboards, and treatments, ideate video series concepts, and assist producers with everything from scripts, casting, styling, art direction, crew recommendations and formats. The ideal candidate has worked across lifestyle and culture - spanning entertainment, pet, fashion, beauty, health, food, travel, tech and auto. They should have excellent writing skills, a strong visual eye, and proven work - ideally in advertising/ branded video. They should have a strong production background and be comfortable pricing an idea for feasibility and advising on execution. Directing experience is a plus but not a requirement. This role will report into the Dania Beach, FL Studio Director.
What you'll do:
- Proven ability developing video creative is a must, responsible for shaping and leading the creative vision of each project including creating scripts/treatments, art direction, providing creative input on shoots, post and music, working with art directors and other department leads to execute vision
- Partner with business stakeholders, Brand Design and Executive leadership, representing Studios Creative in presentations and strategy discussions.
- Contribute to cross departmental/category projects as a creative partner and storyteller.
- Direct the daily creative video workflow to support the creative goals and strategic goals.
- Instill a passion for collaboration and teamwork throughout the department.
- Mentor and inspire all level of creatives on your team in their professional development – from interns to Associate Creative Directors.
- Attract and develop top creative talent as this role will have direct management responsibilities.
- Collaborate on and guide the day to day work of all direct reports, giving them critical feedback and leading the generation of stellar ideas.
- Coach team members on presentation skills, interfacing with Sr. Leaders and stakeholders
- Oversee multiple projects through all stages of development, asset and content creation, from concept through to production, post and final delivery.
- Stay abreast of content and technology trends in the entertainment, video production and motion graphic communities, and suggest new ways to implement these into our process
- Create clear, differentiated, high-standards and scalable vision for Video Creative within Chewy
- Roll up your sleeves to pitch in and deliver work wherever needed
What you'll need:
- 8+ years working in a creative/video leadership role (ideal candidate has been directly responsible for developing co-branded video creative at an agency, production company or publisher)
- The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling and crafting engaging videos for brands including live action, CGI, and animation projects.
- A track record of proven work across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Youtube) and formats (from documentary to short-form storytelling to visual mood lookbooks, how-to’s, etc.)
- Excellent project management skills ability to work on multiple campaigns at any given time, exemplary time management skills to ensure all deadlines are met.
- Depth of knowledge in the lifestyle space - keeps up with trends, video trends and talent.
- Experience taking business goals and translating them into creative projects.
- Exceptional presentation skills– a requirement for both internal and external creative presentations.
- Proven omni-channel knowledge: digital/social/traditional media/content/products and services for Partnerships and Direct to Consumer, ability to both ideate and guide work created for specific media placement.
- Clear articulation of expectations, able to rally a team around one outcome and objective.
- Strong understanding of business needs and how it applies to marketing strategy, objectives and creative deliverables.
- Knowledge and genuine interest in Chewy and e-commerce platform.
- An ad school or liberal arts (4 year) degree is preferred.
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite and other appropriate tools of the trade; Experience and/or understanding of post production, CGI/VFX, and motion graphics; Basic knowledge of final cut pro & editing software.
