Role Description

The Content Design team is diverse, with backgrounds that span everything from filmmaking to information design to journalism. We love learning from each other, and get together for Content Design workshops where we share work and give each other feedback. We’re a kind, funny team who believe in encouraging and supporting each other. No egos. No drama.

At Dropbox, content designers are relied on not only for simple, helpful, and human language, but also partnership in the design process. Important design-wide (and company-wide) initiatives are staffed and led by content design, and we give input on design that goes far beyond language.

We’re established enough to have developed great tools and processes, but still young enough to have many opportunities and unsolved problems. We’re constantly striving to be better.

We’re looking for a content designer to help improve, design, and launch features for our core product experience—the foundations of Dropbox. Joining our virtual-based design team, you’ll do content strategy and user experience writing for products that help people do amazing work.

Responsibilities

  • Own the content strategy and UX writing across core Dropbox features
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Product Managers, Product Designers, Researchers and other stakeholders
  • Translate complex concepts into people-friendly and easy-to-understand experiences
  • Proactively reach out to partners to foster collaboration, represent Content Design, and launch great customer experiences
  • Bring your user-focused point of view to articulate and recommend design solutions
  • Thoughtfully prioritize across a broad range of needs to identify and focus on the highest impact
  • Collaborate with product marketers and other partners to align messaging
  • Deliver high-quality UX writing for menus, onboarding, settings, and core user flows
  • Workshop with a first-class team of content designers, improving your work and raising the quality bar of the design org

Requirements

  • 5+ years professional writing experience
  • 2+ years in-product writing experience (UI, notifications, errors, tooltips, etc.)
  • A portfolio of content design (please send with your application)
  • A knack for translating complex technical talk into people speak (we like humans)
  • A mind for end-to-end experiences
  • An ability to be both creative and consistent within a controlled vocabulary
  • Skill in prioritizing with competing projects and stakeholders
  • Experience following or creating writing style guidelines
  • Experience partnering with designers, researchers, and product managers
  • Passion for punctuation and are partial to puns (affection for alliteration is optional)

Nice to haves

  • Experience writing for mobile apps or writing across platforms
  • Experience working with remote teams, over VC and otherwise

Additional Perks + Benefits

In order to be successful in our Virtual First environment we needed to make changes that would allow employees to have more control over both where and how they work. Therefore, we embrace “non-linear workdays” with defined core collaboration hours that overlap across time zones. Beyond that, we encourage employees to design their own schedules to balance collaboration with needs for individual focus. We’ve also moved from “all day syncs” to an “async by default” culture, reserving meetings for discussion, debate, and decision-making, and handling all other work in our deep focus hours.
